And of course, there is that other great philosopher, Donald Rumsfeld, on what we know and don't know: Do we know when offers will come Gary? No we don't. Today!

My opinion, calls start Friday or next week. Yes that's 3 wks notice if next week but that is within historical offers especially prior to this new register. Booooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!

Wow, that is a big change in opinion sratty. Frankly, I do not see SSA waiting until next week to start calls. In all reality, SSA is likely to start calls sometime this week. If the idea is to meet this year's hiring goal of 250 ALJs, the later SSA waits, the less likely SSA will meet its hiring goal this year. If SSA starts next week, there are likely to be more than a few candidates that will ask to start in the following class due to not enough time to wrap up their business prior to the start date at the end of June. This means June's class will be undersized once again (leaving aside, Gaidin, Gary, Sratty and others who are willing to start with one day's notice). It likely will mean SSA will not meet the 250 hire goal this year. So, interesting times indeed. I personally say offers start sometime this week.

And have no doubt they still plan to hire the goal.

Sratty SSA may plan to meet its hiring goal, but plans and actually reaching the goal are two uniquely different things. You may be right SSA first starts with offers next week, but I believe I am right that many candidates called will ask for a later start date leaving the June class being undersized, like the May class. We are dealing with a lot of outsiders who have law practices which may be need to be wrapped up or others in large firms with upcoming trial dates, which means those candidates will need a later start date. I do not need a later start date as I can start with one day's notice, but I know a few candidates who have the "wrap-up" issues I spoke about above. (BTW sratty, I am not disagreeing you may indeed be completely right about the start of offers and as usual I respect your viewpoints immensely.)

MPD it was Intel not my opinion. Sr., I am confused. Do you have new Intel that offers are not starting until next week (i.e., the week beginning June 7, 2015)? Your post on page 3 of this thread from yesterday said that it was your "opinion" that offers would not start until the week beginning June 7, 2015. But, the post quoted above says "Intel" not "opinion". Would you clarify for those of us who may be a little slower than others. Thanks

The Intel I received was that they expect offers to start within "the next week or two" and that was yesterday. So that is vague but I took it to mean any day through next week. Sorry it is not more clear but that is what I got.

This is why the idea of 4 classes between now and the end of the fiscal makes sense to me. The crucial piece of information we will need to know is if somebody needs to defer when are they given the option to defer to. Based upon Sratty's intel I think the earliest we get phone calls is Friday and I actually think it might be Monday. I went back and looked they filled the May class in about 4 days and I think they believe they can do that again.

According to my government issued calendar, there is room for 4 more training sessions in Falls Church this FY: June 20 (for the May 18 hires), July 20 (for the June 29 hires), August 31 (for the August 10 hires) and September 28 (for the September 8 hires. This is strictly my opinion and the dates are subject to change, but that would be one way for ODAR to get a total of 6 classes in one FY. If they shoot for 40 folks per class, that's just under 250 hires. It would help a lot if the phone started ringing for you guys so we can move the process along!!!

Gaidin this makes complete sense, the only issue would be if SSA has to wait for more certs from OPM (due to ALJ transfers and such) to add cities, this is likely to slow the process down again as it did with this set of certs. It is not a pretty picture no matter how you cut it for SSA to get close to 250 candidates this fiscal year. If all the budget money isn't used by SSA this year, it is lost. Therefore, SSA is at Congress's mercy for what may be given in the next fiscal year's budget. I wouldn't bet Funky's farm that Congress will be as generous with dollars to hire ALJs next fiscal year.

I predict that in order to alleviate more OPM-induced pain and expedite hiring for the FY, SSA will hire 73 new ALJs for Mount Pleasant and 36 for Fresno, and let the transfer process clean up the resulting mess.
This is also my poor attempt at humor.

This is also my poor attempt at humor. I wouldn't go that far but in all seriousness I wouldn't be surprised to see several offices get truly large hires (6-7 ALJs) this time around and a similar move in the next wave. MPD that is why I think they will request it asap and hope to have enough left from this cert to hire all of June and July. Using the new certs to fill August and September classes.
