I concur with MPD and Gary. There were transfer emails only last week. I think some dust may need to settle this week.

Does anyone have an estimate of how many remain on this register? I know for awhile people were keeping something of a tally, but I lost track long ago.

Wing, I remember we had a discussion on that but it's in another thread. If you can find it, please bump it up so that we do not clog up this class size for ODAR classes thread. Thanks Edit Note by Pixie: Thanks, SeaLaw. I have merged the posts from the inappropriate thread to this one. And thanks to Cutter for finding this thread. Pix.

I think the register started with about 800.
SSA might have hired a total of 250 or so in classes starting 8/2014 through 9/2015 plus the couple starting in January.
Other agencies (OMHA, etc.) have hired some--let's say maybe 20.
And some have taken themselves off the register--lets guess maybe 10.
A few have been added--new vets and successful appellants. I'll put this at 20 though the number could be very different.
So: 800 + 20 – 250 – 20 – 10 = 520 might be a plausible guess of the register's size at this time.

I would guess it is no more than 500. Of that remaining number, a larger proportion than ever has been "hosed by their GALS" (thanks Funky for that turn of phrase.) Maybe by now a quarter to a third have chosen 1-4 popular cities or cities that haven't shown up. Even picking a random number, say 35, that have not been recommended, it is easier to see how choosing 50-90 at a time could be a challenge.

It wouldn't surprise me if wingnut's estimate of current register size is closer than mine.

Testimony from OPM and SSA in 2011 regarding the hiring of ALJs seem to indicate that the like a register over 1,000. I cannot imagine such a low number. Our estimates are incorrect.

That was the prior register not this one. It had also been refreshed at that point. Everybody* got an NOR under the old system many were just to low to be usable. *Who met the minimum qualifications.

To start with 1000 on the register, OPM would have needed to test something like 1400 people. Our reports of how many tested would have to have been about 300 light. I don't see it.
Also, OPM's new paradigm was higher quality candidates on the register, with each and everyone on the register qualified to be an ALJ.

The more we question our basic assumptions, the closer to the Truth we will get. To think we have a complete picture is to be blinded by our arrogance.

It's not the size of the register....it's the sway of the ALJ.

Questioning basic assumptions does not presuppose that after questioning those assumptions will be found wanting.

It's not the size of the register....it's the sway of the ALJ. Are you saying size doesn't matter?
