Did everybody sing along? There were songs people sang to. There were lots of songs performers played and sang and everyone else listened to. It was during the early sixties folk revival. I was thinking of this.

1st show was the Oak Ridge Boys in about 1979. The first one I bought my own tickets for was Aerosmith at Thompson Bowling Arena in Knoxville.

I don't have a lot of detailed memories of the hootenanny. I do remember someone sang this song, which at 10 or 11 I liked and thought profound:

As a kid, Diana Ross in NYC (uh-may-zing). First tix I bought, Smashing Pumpkins. Best concert, Phish at the Millennium New Year's show at Big Cypress. Worst, Blink-182 in D.C. but Green Day opened and was outstanding: the "Pop Disaster" tour. Lol.

July ? 1988. Memphis liberty bowl. Monsters of Rock Tour. Dokken, Scorpions, kingdom come, Metallica and Van Halen.
That's the first true concert I bought tix to, but by then I had been to New Orleans Jazz fest 3 or 4 times back when it was still about jazz and the blues. Saw tons of the greats like BB, Fats Domino, Percy Sledge. I had awesome parents.

Not that anyone here watches Weeds or anything. The only weed I watch is the one growing through the sidewalk crack. And when I watch it I don't inhale.

The Jefferson Airplane, Spring 1969. We cut out of school as they were giving a free concert. Grace Slick was sooo awesome and I had a huge crush on her. Folks were taking off their clothes...oh the good ol' days!

Beatles at Dodger Stadium in 1966. I win. ;-) "So glad you were there, lawbird, but I PLAYED that concert. 'Twas a good gig." (The above is what Sir Paul said when I showed him lawbird's post. Paul is staying with me for a few days -- we're just sittin' around, strummin' our guitars, telling stories, having a cocktail or two. Very relaxed.)

ul, please tell him that I was the hysterically screaming little girl in the front row, and that he promised me an autographed copy of Yesterday. I am here to collect.

The Byrds in 1968. Interviewed Roger (not Jim) McGuinn after the show for an article published in an underground newspaper.

By coincidence I just took my 12 y/o daughter to her first concert this weekend: Fall Out Boy. Mine was INXS, summer 1988. The bands aren't that dissimilar really. So glad she has good taste and didn't make me take her to Taylor Swift.
