Good luck to all those who will be getting the call any day now. If patterns hold true, tomorrow could be the day! It will be surreal when you get the call as you have waited a long time. Once you get the call and accept, you will begin your transition with celebration and excitement and then the chaos and rush of moving will be upon you (unless you are super lucky and get your chosen city).
To all those in federal service it will be less stressful as the relocation assistance is very helpful. To those in private practice and non-federal jobs, your skillful detailed planning will be put to the test. Before you know it, training will be upon you and you will make many new friends. Everyone every step of the way has been pleasant and very helpful. I hope you have the same experience! Good luck my friends! Although my fingers are crossed for all of you, I am especially thinking of Gaidin, gary, moopigsdad, and Ace Midnight!

Any suggestion for those in transit and potentially without access to a telephone for 24 hours? I do not expect a call since I received the FOAD or thank you for playing, but game over (for now), e-mail, but just in case... if I'd miss the call, I might FOAD.
BTW, I just looked up "FOAD" and you guys are a profane bunch! : )

Board history shows that it is not unheard of to get a call even after receiving one of those (FOAD or TBNT, if you prefer) prior to the next certs dropping. There is some history of them emailing or leaving a message if they don't get through. Not sure exactly how that works. Good luck.

I was in a hearng when Mellinda called. She left a message with the offer and asked me to call back within 24 hours. I believe that if you don't respond to the voice message, they send an email

BTW, I just looked up "FOAD" and you guys are a profane bunch! : ) When I left the country for 2 weeks, I obtained a global loaner phone from Verizon just in case the call came. It worked well - my cell phone number transferred to the new phone for the 2 weeks, and when my trip ended I returned the global phone. If you have a smart phone (I do not), your cell phone may already be global ready and you just need to turn on the global feature so you can get calls. While the call did not come, the peace of mind of having the capability of receiving the call was worth it.

Don't they just leave a voicemail and say call us back within 3 days or something like that? Or do they move down the list if you don't pick up? They always leave a message. Always. Then you have 24 hours to respond. If you do not respond, then they move on. MANY people are in court or where they cannot just answer a call when it comes in and they know that, so as long as you can check your voicemail, you should be fine. In the past there have been times when folks did not answer the call until after business hours and it caused a bit of a log jam since they could not move on to call the next person until they got a response. So although you have 24 hours, your fellow candidates will appreciate a prompt response. Good luck!

I just plunked down $40 to get my phone to receive calls at all times. I will be watching this board and the moment the calls are done, I am turning off that option, as getting away from clients is kinda the point of this whole thing.
Thank you all for the info!

No calls today? What's going on? That is a great question. They really should have known who they plan to make offers to for the next class from the time they finished offers from the last class, since they apparently already had the candidate pool. Actually I can't think of any reason why they couldn't have just kept rolling with offers without a break. I wonder if some sort of equal opportunity complaint was made based on someone not getting as much lead time to report as another offeree, and as a result they are not making offers prior to the week that would give as close to exactly four weeks notice as possible. It would seem kind of petty, but it might also explain why they started getting stingy with deferments.

I hope all will get going soon since the less notice the more difficult it is for everyone to close up shop and move if they have to move. Maybe the next group will not be traveling far.... so it could work out ok. I think the waiting is the most difficult right at the times they start (or should start) offers. The in between waiting does not seem so bad (since we are well over the 2 year mark and are pros at waiting). But the waiting and watching for calls is more intense around the anticipated offer call times. Good luck all!

I agree that the wait time between when the offers were expected to start and when they actually started was the most interminable.
I just wanted to add one more thought for those waiting. This hire is expected to be very small, so it will come and go quickly. Don't get down by it. The September hire is expected to be 75 to 80. That will be almost as many added as the three previous hires combined. That's the sweet spot for many of you. And there are 250 more hires coming next year. Your patience will be rewarded!

For more potentially exciting news, I expect there will be a few new cities that will make their cert debuts for the September class (in addition to many of the usual suspects). The push to fill offices, including into non-conforming offices, has been ongoing since the first class was eligible back in November 2014. There are already judges from the March 2015 class that have received reassignment offers, and I know that there were transfer inquiries for offices in large cities that didn't receive any takers. In the past year, there are offices that had transfer inquiries sent, received new hires, had additional transfer inquiries sent out, received transfers, and still have openings for new judges. It should be an exciting next month or so for everyone on the register, including the most recent post-appeal additions.

I just received intel from an unimpeachable source who must remain anonymous.
A handful of people have been hired for August already. However, there have been unspecified complications in the August start which are delaying additional hiring slightly.
SSA will likely give less notice to those hired than they prefer. People need to be ready to respond quickly so SSA can give those hired as much notice as possible.

Seriously, folks when the call comes please be ready with your answer. I may be out of it this round but I really hate to see anybody get shafted because someone else can't make the decision they have already made when they put the "x" beside that location.
