I am uncertain of the continued utility of this thread, except to allow two divergent perspectives of an intensely personal question to become increasingly heated. Cheesy I agree with you as the two sides here will never agree. Let's just agree to disagree folks and call it a day. I believe nothing further can be gained by any more discussion here and I am asking Pixie to close this thread to further comments to avoid it disintegrating into something much worse. EDIT NOTE BY PIXIE: See my post below.

I am certain that it has no utility.

No need to lock it. It helped blow off some steam. Think it's fizzled out on its own. I sincerely wish everyone interviewing the best of luck. Especially Gaidin who has contributed so much to the Board. Gaidin, like many of us on the Board, interviewed with SSA a long time ago beancounter. The only people interviewing now are those who are receiving their first cert ever from SSA.

I am uncertain of the continued utility of this thread, except to allow two divergent perspectives of an intensely personal question to become increasingly heated. Shut your stupid face. Just kidding. Seriously, it probably did help blow off some steam and I appreciate that folks who feel like more deliberation may be warranted have a position that works for them. We shall have to agree to disagree. I hope however long it takes anybody to make the decision that we all get the opportunity to do so and that we make the right decision for us and our families.

MPD: I have been following this thread. So far it has been fairly civil. I am going to hold off on doing anything for now. If the OP asks me to lock it, then I will do so. Otherwise, I am going keep a close eye on it to see what develops. Thank you for alerting me to the situation, but I have been paying attention. Pix.

I think the real issue here is that some folks are taking a gamble. The gamble is that they will have what they have now in their other life, where they will be alot further away from what they know and love. The best example of this on the Board, IMHO, is the mother who accepted the position who had to leave her family. As a Dad, I think that's a pretty tough call. Now I do get it that the discussion of what cities would work for the family and what ones wouldn't should have been had at the time you sent in the ODAR GAL, but you know what, these discussions are hard, folks. Not that you don't know that, but it bears emphasis.
My family took a big hit, in ways that I could not have anticipated. Would I have done what I did all over again? You betcha. But The Job was and is, transformative.
We have had another (single) Mother who took the job and her daughters to a strange land and has not looked back. You can hear the new Rock Star qualities in her new life as a big cheese in a smaller town when she posts. Its pretty awesome.
My point is yes, take the 24 hrs if you need it. Gird the loins and take the plunge and look everyone in the eye. It is a big decision and while there may be some pain and anxiety we have not had more than one here sorry that they took the job. And at the risk of repeating myself, you don't know what its like until you've been there.

You know, I really didn't intend to ignite a fire-storm, or even a tempest in a teapot.
I agree that those who need time - for all kinds of reasons - should take it. My only point was that IF you DON'T need it, don't take it.
I know I didn't say that very artfully in the edit to the original post.

Yep. This makes sense to me. I think luckylady2 was just pointing out to the newbies and reminding the rest of us that taking that 24 hours has potential adverse consequences on others and on the Agency if they cannot complete the phone calls in time to fill the class so don't defer responding just for the heck of it. It is a sensitive subject in view of feedback that the Agency was prepared to make offers that were not extended because of delays in replies, but presumably they were able to catch up with those folks next time around.

"to see what develops"....well let me tell you what this "two-time thread locker" thinks! We had the same discussion during the first cert with almost the same opinions and I was right then and funkyodar was wrong when I said..............just kidding. Both sides are well represented with their comments concerning the "answer" when the call comes, if it comes. It was easy for me b/c the new office was right down the road and I was ready to make a major change for a better life! I can see it being a surprise several certs down the road and a much more difficult decision for others for a variety of reasons. Good luck to all of the regular board members and all others out there lurking or new to the board. LadyLuck2 last comments summed up the thread perfectly. If you need the time, take it, if not, you can say what I said to Bob. "Bob, you had me at hello." Of course, there might be an arkward silence, but Bob laughed. IMHO tigerlaw Pixie: What is the statute of limitations on locking a thread or two? 12 months seems long enough for me.

I am certain that it has no utility. Wait, you mean "utility" is the sole criterion of Board threads? Like "Drink of the Day"?

I don't think the is a Statue of Limitations (aren't those pesky creatures in the real world?). I think I can lock a thread at any time, although the passage of time usually negates the reason for doing so. Pix.

Now that I have gone back and read your post again, it appears that you want to have a distant locked thread unlocked? If so, I can tell you that I didn't lock your thread, and that I won't unlock a thread that was locked by ALJD, nor will he unlock one of my locked threads. We communicate on these things and stay on the same page with each other.
As I remember, you were a bit more of a Tiger than a kitty cat when you first started out on this board? Maybe that is why you were locked? Pix.

Thanks Pixie, I was joking about the SOL on tread locking, (3 thread locks and you are out) but yes I was a little bit more of a Tiger back in the early days of my board time, but it was mainly Funkyodar's fault as he was a very mean person back then! After he started listening to Katy Perry, he became a much nicer fellow and I became a mellow kitten. Tiger

(Luckily, even though it is a nonhearing day, I can wear my robe around all day, to lunch, etc., to cover the coffee stains)
