It is not that people want to escape a particular city. Instead, it is that people want to get back to their home. The "golden ticket" refers to any offer. Those cities you listed just happen to be revolving door offices due to a variety of reasons. Some as you said are remote, but more than anything they are not "home" for the majority who leave. I have repeatedly heard great things about staff in all of those locations. It is simply a personal choice for people who want to be elsewhere and not a negative about the city. Thanks, Judge R. I certainly understand your point. I'm still wondering, though, why Cincinnati in particular would be one of those revolving-door places. It seems to me Cincy would be identified as a very desirable location by large numbers of people, and "home" to more than a few. I'd expect more requests for transfers to the Queen City, as it's known along the Ohio River, rather than away from it. Ah well - Perhaps no one wants to put themselves out there on how Cincy got on the list.

Cincinnati...
3rd hand WAG is that the files are unusually large in comparasion to other ODARs in Cincy. Lots of pages doesn't change an ALJ's quota numbers ... As a result it is considered a more difficult city to do your jobs than other locations.
Again total hearsay and I have no 1st hand knowledge of the truth of this statement.

Or more accurately, the "chili."

Can't dispute the "chili." But maybe I can set a few southern souls at ease regarding Cincy.
Just across the river in Kentucky, one CAN get grits and real sweet tea.

the hearsay about larger files could very well be true. rather limit my comments on this page but that would not surprise me. other than that, i have never heard anything about Cincy office being one to avoid at all costs. i will comment that some offices that seem popular and therefore would be logical to assume they are good offices is not always a correct assumption. and some offices seem to be a starting point where people transfer out of for reasons unrelated to their enjoyment or lack thereof of an office. so some of those always on the list are not necessarily bad.

At training, Judge Allen told us several times about a newbie ALJ who was # 3,011 (or so it seemed, I can't remember the exact number) on the transfer list for St. Pete. The last time around, everyone before him on the list passed on a transfer and now he's working at the St. Pete H.O. You never know. One man's Mt. Pleasant is another man's Pasadena.

Zombies. Don't forget we talked about Zombies. No, the zombies are in Richmond. That's right. Don't even think of going there unless you know how to deal with them. Leave Richmond zombies to the experts.

I was thinking of you as I wrote it. I hope all is well. All's well here. Sitting out back looking at the mountains eating some grilled swordfish thinking of the class. Not to be presumptuous, but the best class ever so I hear. A shout out to all of you Back to the latest of the thread. There were a couple from the last few classes that were planning to settle into Cincy. They had no issues as far as I know. Rumors and gossip are just that. Don't ever let second hand comments drive your decision. My two cents.

My WAG is that the Cincy file size may have to do with the prescription pill addiction epidemic in southern Ohio...

The last time around, everyone before him on the list passed on a transfer and now he's working at the St. Pete H.O. You never know. One man's Mt. Pleasant is another man's Pasadena. This seems like a horrible story to tell, much less several times. You have agreed to the job, you are in training ... it's not like he is recruiting you to the job. why plant a possibly unreasonably hopeful expectation in your heads? Why not let an earlier move than expected be a pleasant surprise, rather than making the more likely waits for many moves into confusing disappointments for people? Surely Judge Allen should know better? Surely the 'official' line is similar to what this board says over and over that you need to make peace with wherever you are because it could be a while? Or if it is SO easy to move around - virtually guaranteed! - why not put poeple wherever they want to go in the first place?
