I will do Georgia in two parts Atlanta and its neighbors and the rest of the state. Atlanta is the LA of the south which probably appropriately insults fans of both cities.
It is home to a great airport, a poor excuse for a football team, a ton of other professional and college sports. If you're ever in town you should visit the original location of The Varsity.
To begin with our musical selections I give you the most important song about the state of Georgia ever by one of the masters of American music.
Outkast
Probably no band out of Athens, GA has had the lasting impact on American music in the last quarter of the 20th century like REM. Orange Crush hit me like a bomb when I first heard it. While not REMs best song it is one of my favorites.
I had such a crush on Cindy Wilson and Kate Pierson. The B-52s were another band from Athens. If you watch closely you can see Ru Paul of Drag Race fame dancing in the background.
Zac Brown is from a northern suburb of Atlanta.

If the transfer lists have taught me anything, it is that it's probably futile to try and scare people away from Florida. However, I refuse to give up altogether. So, just note that Florida is renowned for two things: (1) sinkholes; and (2) being, along with Germany, the source of every story of weird and bizarre human behavior.

and isn't Atlanta humid?? Only in the spring, summer, and fall. Technically it is humid in winter also but it freezes into ice and paralyzes the city completely.

I visited friends in Atlanta and they were all excited because they had "snow" and were going sledding. I quickly realized that their "snow" was what we call a nightly frost in Michigan. Never even considered getting a sled out for frost....

Rest of Georgia Savannah Macon Augusta - I have a question about August that I am hoping someone can answer. According to ODAR's website Augusta is a pulling unit and not a hearing office are there ODAR ALJs there? If not is there another agency that has ALJs there? Ben Riley the drummer on Thelonius Monk's album Straight No Chaser is from Savannah. Macon gives us two incredibly important acts. Little Richard - what I like about this video is his reckless abandon as a showman. Also that is the same haircut Prince would rock 30 years later. The Allman Brothers Band - I had never really paid attention to the Allman Brothers until my last year in college. That was a mistake. Our next musical guest is in honor of our own funkyodar. James Brown grew up in Augusta. He was probably the hardest working kid in Augusta.

Gonna jump in here on behalf of FRESNO:
I know I'm a little late to the party but I read the posts and need to comment. I was an ALJ stationed in Fresno for 5 months. I transferred out to be with my family at home, not because of any problem with Fresno.
The office there is very nice, with very friendly, professional people. The judges are great, the writers very good, and the atmosphere relaxed and collegial. For a beginning judge like me it was a great assignment and a great office.
Fresno the city is a surprisingly nice city. My (ignorant) impression of it before arriving was based on the statistics I had read, but they are misleading. Overall, I would say that it is a very comfortable and livable city, based on my time there in the spring and summer. Pros include the proximity to the Sierra Mountains and Yosemite (1 hour), the dry and comfortable climate (70F in the mornings and after 8 pm in July). It is 2.5 hours from San Francisco, 2.5 hours from Carmel, and 3.25 hours from L.A. I drove these many times, and the drive was pleasant. You could easily spend every weekend in those cities if you live in Fresno.
Fresno has all of the basic things you need to have for a comfortable city--all the major chain stores and restaurants, some nicer restaurants (Eureka!, Ruth's Chris, etc). It has some nightlife scene and up-scale after-work watering holes (Fig Garden area). It has green areas, parks, etc. It is relatively flat, and not particularly scenic, but you get spectacular scenery if you travel just a few mile ease toward Yosemite.
I too read about the gangs and crime. I lived in a nicer part of town in an affordable but nice apartment and never had any problem with any gang activity or crime. All of the people I met and encountered were unfailingly nice and welcoming. There were no reports in the news about significant gang violence, certainly nothing like some other larger cities have. I'd say for a city of 500K the crime rate was not a significant problem.
Cons: What is seems to lack is a critical mass of young professional "millenials" and the types of businesses and things that interest them. It is an agricultural center, and despite the presence of Fresno State University there don't seem to be a lot of tech, financial, or creative-type businesses that attract the millennial crowd. It can get hot, but I honestly never thought that the 105F days were unpleasant because they were so dry. The worst thing by far is the fact that it is expensive to fly in and out of Fresno. Everything connects in LA or San Jose, and thus the time and expense make flying a PITA unless the government is paying. And finally, the $120,000 pay for a ALJ is too low, although the cost of living there is much more reasonable than the rest of Cali.
Bottom line: if you are mature, with kids mostly grown, you may find this to be an attractive place for a long-term or even permanent stay--I did. If you are a young single millennial looking to live on the cutting edge of today's culture you'll probably find Fresno a little too sleepy for you. If you are a young couple with small kids looking for a permanent home I suspect that you can find a good school situation and nice safe neighborhood with ease, and raise your kids around down-to-earth and friendly people.
I feel Fresno has gotten a bad rap in GAL discussions, lumped in with cities that have much less to offer. It deserves some serious investigation if you are thinking of expanding your GAL.

I pretty much just come on here to see what weird facts Owl will post.
Thank you sandiferhands for the Fresno plug. I am definitely including it in my GAL expansion if we get the chance.

Savannah is America's Most Haunted City. Mess with the paranormal at your peril.
Augusta is renowned for yet another unconventional use of mayonnaise, which is to whip it up with gobs and gobs of shredded cheddar cheese and some chopped pimentos and onion. Pimento cheese sandwiches are quite good -- addictive, really, and undoubtedly within weeks of arriving here your cholesterol would be through the roof.
As for Macon and the rest of rural Georgia, well, we all know it's inhabited by either deranged hillbillies or zombies that the Walking Dead production crew failed to round up after shooting. In fact, there are so many roaming zombies that the Guardian Center (right outside of Macon), where first responders go to practice for disasters, is hosting a zombie 5K.

Savannah is on my relatively small GAL.I was enchanted by the city after reading Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. The book is better than the movie, but the movie has some pretty sweet Savannah scenery. Plus, I hear that they throw a wild St. Patrick's Day party. Kevin Spacey does a surprisingly good rendition of "That Old Black Magic" in the movie.

Pro-tip when making home made macaroni and cheese replace about half of your cheese with pimiento cheese. OMG!!!!!!! Its not bad on a hamburger either but thats nothing compared to how delicious pimiento mac and cheese is.
