I think your timeline makes sense, G. It's basically last year's schedule. The difference I see is that they interviewed into the first week of December, and I believe they added a few hires at the end of December last year. I like your SWAG. I think they may be adding candidates who tested (successfully) in August/September to the register sometime this month. I think OPM may be able to add them to any appropriate open certs so that probably would not of itself necessitate recerting every location, but I'm not sure. I am about to further show my ignorance. You mention "appropriate open certs." Do we know, or at least suspect, which certs are (will be) open?

I have some basis to believe that a class will start January 25. I will be absolutely stunned if a class starts before then. I just don't imagine that is possible. Therefore, I believe it is time to start SWAGing. I think for purposes of this discussion we should assume that the government does not get shut down. If there is a shut down the permutations are so varied that it makes even wild guesses worthless. January 25 - Start Date December 23 - Last day of offers (4 weeks before the start date is actually December 28 but I don't see them planning on working that day just to finish offers) December 14 - First day of offers (just because) Week of November 30 - hiring committee Week of November 16 - interviews Week of October 26 - Cert emails My SWAGiest of SWAGs is that they don't cert many more cities and that the current certs are simply updated. That will add a few people because of hires but they won't have to interview many more people and that saves time. They presumably have openings still in all of those offices. Thanks for this, Gaidin. I understand the dates are speculative, but it answers a question I had about the order of being alerted one is "certed" and being interviewed.

It is theoretically possible, though not in my opinion likely, that there are certs from a previous set still open. The question in my mind is which, if any, certs are not closed before the next cert emails are sent. I haven't the foggiest.

You get an email asking you if you are still interested in X cities and some additional paperwork (references and credit checks). Then if you said yes to being interested they will schedule you for an interview.

Gaidin, re your answer "You get an email asking you if you are still interested in X cities and some additional paperwork (references and credit checks). Then if you said yes to being interested they will schedule you for an interview," I take it that if there were a GAL expansion, it would be offered at the time of this e-mail? Or maybe more likely, the earlier NOR?

A possible GAL expansion would come from OPM. The notification that you are on a cert or certs will come from the hiring agency. If a GAL expansion happens in time to affect a cert it would need to come out in advance. Probably weeks in advance. I am beginning to believe that if a GAL expansion is forthcoming it will not affect any potential January hire because the timing is getting to tight.

My apologies if this has been answered, or if this is readily available elsewhere, but does anyone have a list of cities for which there currently are certs? (I'm not even sure I'm saying that correctly.) I understand it is not necessarily a comprehensive list of those which will be 'certed,' but I believe someone earlier said the list as it stands (or recently stood) may be the one next used. Does this make any sense at all?

I have two questions - and I apologize if these were already answered in prior posts. First, am I correct that ODAR may simply act upon the "open" certs that were never filled with September 2015 offers, by making offers to those applicants who were notified back in August that they were being considered for those certs? Second, if ODAR wishes to renew the offer process for an "open" cert, must it first send out those lovely F.O.A.D. letters to applicants before making new offers?

ODAR may hire for the open certs on the same basis as it has been able to since the certs were returned. No FOAD letters necessary. In fact, it sends out an FOAD letter when all of the certs that candidate was on are closed.

I have not received a FOAD letter from the previous set of certs. By "previous" I mean the set of certs before the last set of certs.

If certs are open, we can expect a potential selection, maybe.

They seem to hold certs open until they are about to send out cert emails, regardless of whether they are still going to hire from them.
