There is a recent thread on this. Perhaps one of the members remembers where it is and can link to it. Pixie.

I suspended from a balcony once. Long story. Started stupidly and ended painfully. Even through the fog of bourbon I had not yet learned to appreciate situationally. Amazingly, the glory I had anticipated never materialized.

If the timing isn't right for you to accept an offer, suspending makes sense

I just read other thread. It seemed the person only wanted to suspend because they could not make the May interviews(or I guess June July classes) but would unsuspend in hopes of getting a September start. I could get a new job at my agency and thinking it would be worthwhile to stay where I am and do that job for at least a year. I know it is easy to suspend and unsuspend. I got onePM about suspending and then immediately getting job offer (guess such was already in pipeline). Alas maybe folks with knowledge I seek have suspended from this board as well.

What is it you want to know? I didn't suspend but know someone who did.
The mechanics are easy, as you state. There is no ill effect that I have ever seen reported.
Seems like you are hoping for someone to advise whether it's worthwhile to suspend for a year to try on this new job and unsuspend after if you don't like the new job? I think that's an entirely subjective question that only you can answer.
If you have some other specific questions I can ask my friend and try and get you an answer.

I've known a few folks who suspended and there was no ill effect. If you want to be an ALJ, and the timing isn't right in your life, then suspend. If you want a new job, ALJ or another, a 'bird in the hand ' may apply and take the new job you have instead of waiting for another to come by. But if you realm want to be an ALJ, and you are on the certs right now, then let it ride. Funky is right, this is really based on your personal situation and only know what the right thing is to do.

Thanks for comments. Guess I was just wondering if anyone would respond that they did it and it was a big mistake. Seems just the opposite no ill effects. So likely I will.

It seems to me that someone suspended early in the life of the Register. As I recall, the person was active duty military and was deployed just as first interviews/offers were gearing up. I don't remember whether there were any ill effects.

I can't imagine what any ill effects would be. There's nothing negative about it as far as OPM is concerned, and agencies who get certs from the register don't know who is, or was at some point, self-suspended.

If anybody else wants to suspend and needs help typing up the email let me know. To insure the suspensions don't end "too soon" include: "The suspendee's email has been hacked by bad people, so only unsuspend on a request originating from Gaidin's email address."

Gary, I am ashamed of you, you don't look like that kind of cat... Wait, there is a certain sinister look there after all....

I suspended. You accomplish it by a simple e-mail, and it can be undone the same way. If it's right for your situation, don't hesitate.
