Hi. I'm new to the board and wanted to know if anyone had any information about the Veteran's process and how that will mesh with the latest posting. I applied to re-open the 2013 register in December and took the online component in March. Obviously, the new register opened in April. I haven't heard anything regarding my online results. Any thoughts as to whether those of us that tested in March will just be added into the new announcement and then have our timeline adjusted to fit the new announcement timeline? This is my first time applying so I just don't know how the two different processes work together, if at all. Thanks!!

So, I take it from your post that you are a 10 point veteran?
Welcome to the board. Pixie.

I took the online component in March. I haven't heard anything regarding my online results. I'm in a similar testing situation as you are - perhaps 2 to 3 weeks behind you.
I've been expecting 5 to 6 weeks from when the online testing (2 week) window closed and getting a results email. Are you past 6 weeks from when the online window you were given closed?
I wrote the help desk and asked specifically how the new April refresh would effect my application and received this response: "Your application is currently being processed and is not affected by the current Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) Job Opportunity Announcement (JOA), ALJ2016-847661."
So, I assume that means they will handle our applications on the normal 10 pt vet timeline, unaffected by the new applicants.
If you don't mind a private message to me when you find out your results because it sounds like you may be a week or two ahead of me and I'd love to know when to expect it.

southernfun, great to know I'm not the only one out there. I am just now at 6 weeks post-online component, a couple days over. Mine closed out on 3/22/16. I'll be happy to PM you when I find out...I've been thinking any day now.
Also, thanks for the info on how the new posting affects us. I didn't want to bombard the help desk with tons of questions but I just couldn't find it anywhere else. I figured this was my last resort before asking the helpdesk, and you did not disappoint! Thanks.

southernfun, great to know I'm not the only one out there.... Also, thanks for the info on how the new posting affects us. I have been lurking for awhile but this conversation convinced me to make my first post. I agree, it is good to know there are others. I was ignorant of the possibility of even being an ALJ until a co-worker mentioned that she had applied back in November of 2013. I read up on it, realized it might be a good match for me and applied back in November of last year (with a GAL that that is so narrow that I am not going to ever be chosen (big board tip here is having a wide open GAL really helps your odds)). I assumed (like a few others, obviously) that I would possibly hear this week whether I did really poorly or just managed to scrape through to the next round.
I have been lurking long enough to know that I am fortunate to be in a position that if I receive bad news anywhere along in the process, it will be potentially disappointing but only temporarily. Best wishes, S

First, welcome to BOARD!!! and thank you for your service.
May I ask, you applied in November of 2015, and haven't yet heard whether you passed online testing?
OR I guess, do you mind sharing your timeline so far, in generalities...
so, Applied November, 2015, then invited for online testing X# of weeks later. Heard results about X# weeks after that...

OPM says:
"Pursuant to 5 CFR 332.311, 'a 10-point preference eligible is entitled to file an application at any time for an examination for any position for which OPM maintains a register, for which a register is about to be established, or for which a nontemporary appointment was made in the preceding three years. For the purposes of this paragraph OPM shall hold an examination not later than the quarterly period succeeding that in which the application is filed.'
The Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) Program Office, administers the ALJ examination on a quarterly basis to 10-point preference eligibles who meet the regulatory requirement and apply for the closed ALJ examination."
Thus OPM has a routine whereby it administers the ALJ exam to 10-point preference eligibles quarterly. I believe OPM will just administer and score exams for 10-point preference eligibles who applied when the exam was closed in its usual time frame for such quarterly exams, which I expect will mean the preference eligibles taking the online portion of the exam in March 2016 will (assuming they successfully clear the testing hurdles) receive scores far in advance of the group that applied during the recent JOA open period.

I expect will mean the preference eligibles taking the online portion of the exam in March and in June/July will (assuming they successfully clear the testing hurdles) receive scores far in advance of the group that applied during the recent JOA open period. From your lips to God's ears.
Even one or two hiring rounds before the bolus shows up could make the difference in some of us being hired in 2017 vs being hired in 2019-2020 if at all.

SF, thank you! My application was received by OPM on 11/28/15. I was not invited to participate in the online component until 3/4/16. I completed the online component on 3/21/16. This week would be six weeks after the online component closed. It seemed to me that OPM has historically taken about six weeks to provide similarly situated applicants a determination regarding their success or failure on the online portion of the exam. I'm also aware, however, that OPM opening the register to some unknown number of applicants might slow down the process of providing responses.

You waited a long time (comparatively) to get to do your online testing, but still in the timeframe allowed by the regulation. This process can be so different, application to application.
Well, here is hoping we all passed and get to meet in DC for in-person testing and interviewing. If so, first rounds on me.

Surly, looks like we took the online component at the exact same time. Here's hoping we get something soon!

My guess would be you can chuck the calendar by which the nonvet testers operate.
You may have steps that take a little longer and others that are much, much faster with the end result being an overall quicker process. I think the steps that take longer will be because OPM has contractors, testers, and reviewers all set to perform certain functions on specific days.

With that avatar, it appears you need to be kept on the straight and narrow, maybe more than I can provide. What manner of beast is it? A walrus, a sea lion? Pixie.

Aye, Sir nailed it. It is a surly bull walrus. You'd be surly too if you were missing your two front teeth (tusks), right?

SF, what are "bolus"?
TL, I think SF means the glob of newcomers from the recent posting.

TL, I think SF means the glob of newcomers from the recent posting. yes.
From Websters: bolus -"a large dose of a substance given by injection for the purpose of rapidly achieving the needed therapeutic concentration in the bloodstream "
its also the large ball of chewed food you have in the top of your throat you're about to try and swallow...
