So the application period for 2017 was in August until first week in September? As Judgeknot said, you are late to the party, very late. But welcome to the board. Now you can keep up with things. Pixie

So, I shouldn't have requested a new set of dishware? It is a bit like a registry--with the GAL's you put down what you want. Everyone get's what they view as the cheap knock off version of what they really wanted, and then they shrug & hope to trade it away down the road. Then there are those grateful for what they get--we still have the wedding salad spinner we got. Still works as does the wedding juicer. If it can't be regifted, it's not a registry.

I adapted this from a similar thread that was created for the 2016 application by tiberiustribble , thinking it would serve well to have this info in one place for future review/update. I've included the 2016 dates for quick comparison. If there are other important details that should be added, let me know and I'll figure out how to update it. And, as events have passed, remind me and I'll update those as well. Event | 2017 App | 2016 App | Application Period Opens | 8/23/17 | 3/29/16 | Application Period Closes | 8/30/17 | 4/8/16 | Invitations to take Online Component |
| 6/8/16 | Online Component Open |
| 6/20/16-7/1/16 | Invitations to DC Testing |
| 8/12/16 | Self-Scheduling Opens for DC Testing |
| 8/15/16 | DC Testing
|
| 9/12/16-3/24/17 | AM Status Changes to Complete or SD |
| 5/25/17 | NORs Released |
| 6/13/17 | Notice to ALJ Candidate (ODAR Cert Notification) |
| 7/11/17 | Scheduling of ODAR Interviews |
| 7/17/17 | Interview Dates |
| 7/31/17-8/15/17 | Medicare Cert |
|
| First Offers made (ODAR cert only) |
|
| Second certificate |
|
| Approximate applicants |
| 5500 | Approximate DC Testers |
| 2100 | Approximate NOR scores |
|

Time to update our chart! I can't do it on my cell phone. Going back to page 1 it looks like it's updated there. So if it took 42 last time, with the huuuuuuuuuuuge number of applicants, presumably it'll be around January 19th we get the invite (if any) to DC testing, possibly earlier if this year's group is smaller thus fewer experience assessments & written components to review.

Careful on assuming that number of applicants will impact how long it take OPM to do their part. Someone made an assumption with the 2017 applicants that it was a smaller pool and that therefore the invitation to the online portion would be issued in a shorter time frame than what happened with the 2016 group - but it was roughly the same time frame. 2 points - the first is we currently have no intell on how large of an applicant pool applied in 2017. Second - even if it is in fact a smaller group - OPM may very well have assigned less staff and is sticking to same schedule with respect to their review. The only portion of this process that I predict will be possibly be shorter - assuming a smaller group gets a DC invite - is the span of DC testing/interviews.

So if it's the same it'll be the 42 days (more or less) that it was last year which would be January 19th or so.
More to the point, they'll do it when they do it. Could be in May for all we know. Like a longed for rain (or dry spot) when it happens those who make it through will be delighted whenever it comes, those who don't will be less thrilled to get that news whenever it comes.
The real question will be the length of the DC testing "window."
Good luck to all.

I am posting this for my wife, who is currently in another State from me. She has been working on her online components this week and she is currently working on her experience assessment. However, South Mississippi has been hit with a snow and ice storm, which is very unusual, and her power is out and it is out all over town and the deadline is tonight. Do you think the OPM help desk would give her an extension under that circumstance? Thanks.

Send OPM an email, with her identifying information, explain the situation and see what they say. What they may say is, don't wait until the last day. But they may give relief. Pixie

Not trying to be an idiot but if I was really anxious about being on this track I'd drive over to a place with no electric issues if its a few hours away, book a room, hook up--or better yet, if you have friends you can impose on or a colleague with an office that'll do it. Second thought is the EA allows cut and paste from her resume. Pretty simpy, so all she needs is a few minutes here and there. They aren't looking for brilliant prose just the basics. she should be sure to note how many hours she worked at each position, % of each that was generally litigation--and yes that means research, drafting, meetings/kibitzing, reviewing records etc. and that this was for hearings held in accordance with the APA or a state equivalent, where testimony was taken under oath and the FRE or similar rules of evidence were used. And of course she should drive safely to the new location. Here's a thought--if you/she have a friend at a local college or hospital, they often have their own generators and power. That may be enough. Their library may be open to the public.

We don't know the number of applicants and I have thought for a while if it were smaller, they would just reduce the period for DC testing, meaning those who get the invitation may have to scramble to get there. Guessing we won't know until mid to late January. Year end holidays will slow some stuff down, too.

They’re certainly not going to have a lot of poorly attended dates—it wouldn’t be efficient or cost effective for them. For example, the 2013/14 testing was over a lot fewer dates than the 2016/17 testing, because there were many fewer tested in 2013.

Might it be good to have a poll of who got invited to take online, then who was invited to the DC prom or got a negative.

What y'all really need to do is keep track of the number testing like we did last time. That will give the clearest idea of the number of persons testing. Also, a good poll when the NORS come out will give you the ability to make a good extrapolation as to the number that make the register.
