It was either Darrell Royal or Woody Hayes who said that "Three things can happen when you pass the football, and two of them are bad"; and it would seem the same advice would apply to retaking the ALJ exam in an attempt to increase one's score. And yet . . .
Applied in 2013, scored in the 60s, have made certs about 5 times (had a narrow GAL until changing it to wide open in the January 2016 expansion window) but the phone has never rung with a 703 area code. Did not reapply in 2016 because plenty of hiring from the 60s was imminent then and risking the bird in hand was not worth it, but now that that hiring has come and gone without me, the risk/benefit calculus has significantly changed. Scores like mine already have been buried by the new 2017 additions, and now all of a sudden OPM seems like it's decided to refresh the register every other day. So I'm going to see if I can goose the score up a few points to give myself a better chance of making future certs. And if I get a lower score or even get bounced by OPM entirely, I doubt I'll miss out on too many certs I would otherwise have made. Good luck all! You are my hero.

Hi everyone! I am elated to see this post. I had been thinking that the interest level for people like me had diminished. I applied in 2013 but failed to show I had 7 years of qualifying experience although I had been licensed 25 years and litigating 20 of those years. I advanced to D.C. in 2016 but was done in by the WD. I appealed but reapplied, without hesitation, after seeing the 2017 announcement. This time I am afraid that I won't advance because of subjectivity on the reader's part or some crazy glitch. I found this board after submitting the application in 2013 and have found it to be a tremendous asset. Good luck to all repeat offenders. LOL at "repeat offenders"!

Greetings! In response to SSA's questions, I am a hopeful, first-time applicant, in my eighth year and work for the Federal Government. The majority of my litigation experience is in Administrative Law. My story is a long one, so I'll skip most of that question, (despite my fear it may disqualify me from the next phase of posting) and merely say I check Application Manager every thirty minutes or so, to see if the "Pending HR Specialist Action" has been completed. Echoing what was already said, after the March 2016 refresh, it was exactly two months before people were invited to online testing. I would expect at the very least a month or month and a half this time around - but I guess you never know. Either way, I strongly suggest obsessively checking the board instead of That Which Shall (Must?) Not Be Named. It's more entertaining, you can live vicariously through those just now getting offers, and any info on the next phase will be posted here almost immediately after it happens. Anyway, welcome to the board! Thank you, SSA. I've read several threads and found them enlightening, encouraging and humorous. It does fill the void as we wait for the results of the first step. Best of luck to the new applicants!

A_________ M___________ may only be mentioned in its own dedicated thread. To do otherwise is to risk being banned from the board. If you had read that thread, or only the first post therein, you would determine that its predictive value is zero except for one important area - the ultimate question. I will bump the thread so you will see it. I recommend you read the first post and the wisdom dispensed by gunner and bayou. If you want to obsess over nothing important, then read the whole thing. It's sorta like the Seinfeld show, a thread (show) about nothing. BTW, welcome to the board. Pixie

Except it won't make billions of dollars in syndication. It's a lot less entertaining, and sorely lacking in a theme song For one thing, it gives us an idea hopefully of the cohort composition of this season's application. It can too be entertaining, and it dispenses knowledge (sometimes) and therapy (often). Add to this value added package we have a number of theme songs! Not just one! Just think--you, yes you Prrple , can add value, meaning, by thoughtful, informative, beautifully written posts. Heck, someone has to balance me out--you're it!

Hearing monitor on Friday before a hearing I was about to have, "You should be a judge. You know what you're doing. You're always friendly. You do a nice job for your clients, and we always look forward to seeing your name on a file." If only that mattered. If only she knew that I'd tried to be a judge, but apparently I didn't write the right words in the right order on a stupid exam last fall while I was sick... Yet, here I go again.
It would be altogether too fitting for me to somehow get rejected for not having the required minimum qualifications this go-round or for not answering the cartoon hypotheticals correctly. Can't wait.

Long time lurker, first time poster. I applied for the first time in 2016 and made it through to DC but failed the WD. Me fail WD? That's unpossible! Actually, it was not unexpected. I have applied again for this current round. I am a former/current military JAG (5 years active duty, reserves since) and I've been at a federal agency for about 7 years. This time around, I checked every GAL location on the list.

A lady got out of her car and yelled: "You Unconsiderate b*tch." I wanted to politely tell her, it's "inconsiderate" 😁😁😁 At any rate, good luck. At least you know what to expect for the entire process and the application opened up so quickly. I was booted in 2013 because I didn't sufficiently quantify my more than a "decade and a half" of litigation experience 😬. You're in great company as a member of this board.
