SPN Lifer—That Space Force video was funny! Thanks for the laugh. Rylan’s videos are always great!

See generally Navy's 2018 Army-Navy Game smack video just dropped (background on and links to videos by Rylan Tuohy, USNA ’16), available at www.wearethemighty.com/sports/army-navy-2018-spirit-video . In a half-hearted attempt to be even-handed, and out of respect for Pixie, if you have 10½ minutes to spare (waste), here is what passes for a Woop spirit video, Lead from the Front.

Now that we are almost on the game tomorrow, I am going to have to admit I am concerned. Navy is 9-2 and is ranked at 21. Army is 5-7 and unranked. Malcom Perry, Navy's quarterback is a traitor. Both of his parents are Army NCOs, but yet he chose Canoe U. He never wanted to be a quarterback, but wanted to be a running back. He was handed the rudder at the beginning of this season and has done an excellent job. We shall see if Army can work a bit of magic in Philadelphia and conjure up a win, as it rightfully should. I had 10.5 minutes to spare. I watched “Lead from the Front.” Enjoyable. What all of us—Army, Navy, and Air Force—have in common is two-fold. First, we are one Team proudly serving our great country. Second, we are not the freakin’ Coast Guard!
Aim High! Hamster (USAF, Ret.)
P.S.: The Coast Guard is really OK, too. But everybody in it needs a haircut....

Army has won three in a row. The word I am getting is the boys on the Severn have lost interest in the game this year. We shall know soon enough. Pixie For both sides, a victory today marks the very definition of a “winning season” in the institutional sense. It is the goal toward which both USMA and USNA have been striving since last summer. For Mids on a sports team, beating Army means a varsity letter sweater with an “N*” (N-star) rather than a simple “N”.

Every bar fight I have been in has been in support of a fellow service member. Granted, most of those have been in support of the Army, but I also have waded in on the side of the Navy and, yes, even the Air Force. Once was in support of a Coastie who got in a little over his head. A Marine? Never. Those guys don't need help from anyone; they are tough. They come to the aid of everyone else, just like Army Special Forces. De Oppresso Liber, Pixie

Pixie Need to correct that both of Malcom Perry's parents are retired Army NCOs. Also as a redeeming factor, he has elected to be commissioned in the United States Marine Corps rather than the Navy. Game time is almost upon us. Go Army!

I missed the game. In any event, there’s always next year, Army. You might be knuckle-draggers, but you’re honorably serving your country. I just hope those abrasions heal soon. Glad you’re on the Team! I almost joined the Army, but I felt the skin on the back of my hands was too sensitive to withstand the constant abuse, and I was contemplating learning how to play golf. There’s one branch of service most associated with that sport, you know. That branch also has the nicest billeting and the best chow halls. Consequently, I joined the Chair Force, persuaded to join the military by a totally awesome West Point graduate who started in Field Artillery and then went FLEP. I’m glad I took Ben’s advice. Twenty years went pretty fast. And oh by the way, my dad was in the Navy in ‘45 and ‘46. I salute all our service men and service women. Go Army! Go Navy! Go Coasties! Go Marines! Thank you for your service!
Respectfully, Hamster
PS—I never did learn how to play golf.

Cadets can be inadvertently stupid. Of course, they can be deliberately stupid, too. Still, I doubt there’s a racist cabal amongst the cadets. The Superintendent wouldn’t tolerate it, nor anybody else there in Leadership. Nor would the cadets themselves. Lt. Gen. Darryl A. Williams, Superintendent

I go with stupidity. A dare that should not have been made taken. There is a similarity to a hand sign for another "game" of ill repute but that was a number of years ago and I'd find it hard to believe anyone would go out of their way to be on national TV in an obvious way, risk a reprimand, for an out-of-date practice.

4. Summary of findings:
e. Both Midshipman Xxxxxxxxx and Midshipman Yyyyy stated that they were playing "the circle game." The circle game is a common game that has been played for decades and has been featured in popular culture television, including an episode of "Malcolm in the Middle" that originally aired in 2000. The premise of the game is that a person makes a circle with their pointer finger and thumb below their waist. If someone looks at the circle, they lose and the person who made the circle gets to punch the person who looked in the arm. There are different variations on the game, one of which consists of "photobombing" a photograph while displaying the gesture. Within the last two years, the "OK" hand gesture, which looks like the gesture made for the circle game, became the target of an internet hoax which claimed that the gesture signified "white power." In light of this hoax, several prominent members of "white power" and "white supremacy" groups began making the gesture in public, thereby appropriating the gesture as a symbol of their movements.
* * * * 5. Opinion: Midshipmen Xxxxxxxxx and Yyyyy were playing the circle game without any racist or white supremacist intent.
b. Based on my interviews with the suspects, I assess that both Midshipman Xxxxxxxxx and Midshipman Yyyyy were credible when denying having any racist intent. Both midshipmen exhibited genuine shock and surprise by the entire situation and credibly stated that they were previously unaware of the racist connotation that was recently associated with the gesture. Both midshipmen adamantly denied supporting or having any association with the "white power" movement or having any ill intent when displaying the gesture. Their denials are supported by the statements of their friends, roommates, members of their chain of command, and team captains who unanimously stated that they have never heard any of the midshipmen involved make a racial or derogatory comment and have never seen or heard about any concerning behavior by any of the midshipmen involved. Background checks by both the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Joint Terrorism Task Force for both midshipmen did not reveal any known association with any racist or supremacist group or raise any other cause for concern. * * * *
6. Recommendations:
e. I recommend that Midshipman Xxxxxxxxx's and Midshipman Yyyyy's conduct be addressed through administrative action under the Brigade conduct system, per reference (b), for failure to use good judgment. Although there is no evidence that either midshipman was intending to support "white power" or were aware that the gesture could be interpreted as supporting white power, the hand gestures displayed while in uniform during a live national television broadcast were unprofessional and not in keeping with the standards required of all midshipmen.

They need to investigate that silly "Woops" the Midshipman do. As shown in the video, a little of that goes a long, long way. No flying monkeys around here. Pixie
