HUD is advertising for a "few" current ALJs to transfer to Washington, DC. Position is posted on USAJOBS. That could open up a few spots for us new folks.

My understanding is that they don't care how many positions open - they are hiring a set number, not trying to reach a certain net gain. Thus, leaving ALJs just make the new ALJ's jobs harder (by not being there to help reduce backlog).

I know that the housing discrimination section won't have any ALJs after February 2008, due to retirements. The CJ is going back to SS. That leaves all 6 positions open. In its heyday, it was a great office with great people. It seems the current administration is not funding investigations, so they aren't as busy as they used to be.
If the positions are for the debarrment section, it is very technical and not as interesting.
