any ideas on when SSA makes the calls(or sends the e-mail) to schedule interviews? If I had to guess, I'd guess first week of december. Of course, this just my opinion. I could be wrong.

First rumor I heard agrees with you. I do not know what affect the budget mess will have on this. ODAR may be hesitant to hire new employees without a budget.

FTR everyone-I was making a guess in my post. I haven't heard any rumors. Still, even if there is no budget, I do think that SSA will go ahead and get interviews over and then wait until they have a budget to actually do the hiring.

Falls Church is still making transfer offers. Once that is complete, then they will be in position to request the certificate, if the budget is no longer at issue. Pix.

Because they have to tell OPM the locations where they wish to hire judges. They can't just say, "Send us the highest 300 names and we will decide where to put them." The agency must give the specific locations, and OPM will send the names of the highest scoring candidates who have indicated a preference for those location. Pix.

If the agency is paying for the next round of interviews, that may have to wait for the final budget -- there may not be any money in the CR for travel expenses.

This in response to 3orangewhips pondering the first week of December. What if we expect to be receiving that call (sorry) but will be out of the country from the 14th until the 25th of December? (Again, like me.) Is there some way we can notify the powers-that-be about this absence ?

About that budget...
The President vetoed the bill containing Agency's appropriation yesterday. There is apparently little hope for an override.

Since millions were invested in the Video Hearing (VH) system and it is being urged strongly from the top down to utilize this, and since it is in place and the budget is not, why doesn't SSA select hearing offices regional areas to accommodate those who need to be interviewed. If it's good enough for claimants and ALJs, it can't be discredited by teh aency for needing a face-to-face interview. This may also serve as a wake-up call to cnadidates who think they want to become SSA ALJs. Just a suggestion.

The House passed it by nearly 2/3 vote with 15 not voting at the time. They only need to persuade a few to vote with the majority. The Senate passed it by about 3/4. It only takes 2/3 to override the veto. The House is scheduled to take it up in the morning at about 10am. If they are dedicated to getting it done, perhaps they can accomplish it before the Thanksgiving break.

Additionally, it's not clear that Bush is holding out for much that he's realistically going to get, so even if there is no override, Bush will probably get only a few concessions and the bill will come back through in subtantially similar form for his signature in the near future.
