As some may have noticed, sometimes we come here looking for a way to get distracted from waiting for a phone call, working, arguing with a spouse, or whatever else seems to be on our mind. Most of the other threads revolve aroudnd a specific topic and people, rightfully so (at least in most cases), get a little cranky when things go off topic.
In an attempt to blow off some steam and concentrate the distractions in one place, I've started this tread.
Lately, to pass the time, I find myself addicted to my new Nintendo DS (I gave it to me for Christmas, nobody else would). I play BrainAge on it -- complete with puzzles, Sudoko, memory games, etc. It's mindnuming and fun. When I get REALLy bored, I come here.
What are y'all doing?

To distract myself, I've been watching alot of mixed martial arts matches. I got hooked when my husband and I watched the The Ultimate Fighter Finale on Saturday night, Dec. 8th. Any chance anyone here is interested in MMA? Though some see it as barbaric, I see it as a sport that requires complete and total physical conditioning as well as significant skill in the mixed martial arts of Muy Thai, Ju-Jitsu, wrestling, boxing if one is to succeed. Hope I didn't just turn anyone off with that. If so, I apologize.

I'm watching my 2 year old daughter "write her name" at her little desk and chair. I suspect that her penmanship will end up being better than Dad's (though that's not saying much).

Good thread.
I'm enjoying the early snow here, and getting in as much skiing as I can (making up for the poor season last year!) Between the skiing and the hot tub, I sleep just fine- no need for late night puzzles, and I can't stay awake for a movie!
Of course I'm procrastinating (even at this moment) about writing Holiday cards, and this site is a welcome reprieve -

I'm taking a break from hearing preparation for tomorrow to check recent posts on the Discussion Forum; however, when I get home, I am going to toss an iridescent tennis ball with my Labrador Retrievers... in the snow.

Spend time with the wife and kids and play lots (and I mean lots) of guitar to keep distracted.

Soduku and web-surfing keep me sane but I retreat into a Sackett novel whenever I have the time. Nothing like it when you are pinned to the sofa by an English Setter...

I play Bejewled 2 and Christmas songs on the piano. For the rest of the time, I go to work, run the kids here and there, and plan on cutting part of my birch tree down after the ice storm over this past weekend.

While wainting for the call, ( & still waiting) I decided to finally decorate for Christmas. On Saturday, I hung a wreath on my front door and noticed that I forgot to throw out my jack-o-latern. It was quite disgusting. Of course, since the scores came out October 30th, I have been obsessed with this ordeal. I'm sure my neighbors just think I'm crazy. I hope that the calls come to all you are waiting and wish everyone a very, Merry Christmas. Jerseymom

I do Christmas cards for my clients, my lovely wife does pretty much the rest. Schedule depos to get in a few billable hours. Read a mystery novel and watch Hercule Poirot from Netflix (even my wife likes him now). Drwho, what a great thread

While not at work, refereeing disputes between my three sons (ages 16, 15 and 11) and trying to coax my wife down from the ceiling. Other than that I play lots of raquetball. It takes great stamina to be wrong all the time (particularly the 15 and 16 year olds!!!) If I get this job my wife hopes the three boys and I enjoy our time together in the hotel in Baltimore. She is afraid I can't effectively be wrong from long distance.

We are supposed to hit 75 here today, but cool weather is coming for the weekend. We head to Georgia Saturday to visit the in-laws for the holiday.

Great thread. I started a new job on November 5, so I am still madly trying to figure out the lay of the land. I go to the local athletic club every evening and watch imbecilic TV like Battle of the Choirs while doing the treadmill. I am re-reading Jon Hassler's Staggerford, which is wonderful. Merry Christmas to the other appellants out there. I wish these other people would just hurry up, get hired, and get it over with so that someone will look at our appeals. Good luck to all the people who are getting interviews. If you are not successful, maybe you'll be joining the appellants in the next round. Or, who knows, maybe the appellants will still be waiting for someone to look at their applications. Whatever.

When not stressing out reading this forum, or when I am not at work, most of my time is spent getting ready for the holiday. Were getting our floors redone, and painting the kitchen after getting 4 windows installed and a new counter top. It's an old house and really needs the help. We also have 20 guests coming on the 25th Mostly my wifes brothers and sisters and their families. This thread is a great idea! ;D

We've been cleaning house as my mother in law comes Thursday night for nine days. She's one of those "glass is always half empty or completely empty" people who is determined to be unhappy. Obsessing over the upcoming interview is more fun!
Actually life is really great and wonderful and I have been thinking a lot about all my blessings. We started our family late in life so although I am pushing 50, our son is 4, so just being with him and marveling at 4 year logic is so much fun. Husband is also great so I truly have it made.
I've been trying to read a couple books but don't have much time for it. Codex (it would make a great movie!) by Doulgas Preston and Alexandria Link by Steve Berry. I am a big Steve Berry fan. I've also been sewing some - that's a complete distraction for me. We also did a lot of interior Christmas decorating at the house so it's comfortably festive. Just in general we've been getting ready for Christmas. Looking forward to a lot of good eating next week and then lots of dieting after the first of the year! Having a big eating fest at our house New Year's Day with all the traditional food - black eyed peas for luck, greens for money, rice to be nice and all that jazz - and then probably some inane football watching as guests snooze.
What about the rest of you - any New Year's Day traditions or food?
