Hi all. I know I'm running a little ahead here, but does anyone care to conjecture as to when the offers will start going out? I know there was some speculation a while back that it won't take long at all after the completion of the interviews (which I believe will be the first week in Feb.), if that is the plan. With the middle of April also being speculated upon as the first training class, with a 2 week mentoring program first, that would leave approximately a 1 month window of notice/preparation if the offers (at least the first 50, if the 150 are to be broken up in thirds) go out almost immediately after the interviews.

Take a look at the thread titled "Closing Your Law Practice" for a little information about the subject ....

SSA told me that offers will be made in February - but nothing more specific than that.

SSA told me that offers will be made in February - but nothing more specific than that. I heard the same. Expect the first part of February to be used for sorting out the acceptable candidates and sites and into which training session to place candidates. Then the phone calls will begin. ODAR might be able to do this more quickly, but this is a complex process. To sort out the interviews and candidates and sites in 2 weeks would be very fast work. For the first group to be trained I suspect 6 to 8 weeks notice depending on how smoothly the process goes. If the two week mentoring is in early April with the class beginning after the April holiday, then you may get less notice.

Well, that is as close to a real answer as anybody has gotten! Are you "in the know" globalpanda? Somebody we should be smiling at? Thanks for posting!

To rehash a topic probably on many people's minds as they try to plan their schedules for the next few months, is there any new information on when ODAR will make the offers? From earlier posts on this thread, including a pretty definitive post from globalpanda, the answer was mid to late February. Is that still the case? Thanks.

Last week, one of the HOCALJ interviewers indicated it would be by end of February.

Just keep in mind that while the offers should start being made mid to late February it may take a while to contact 150 plus hires. Remember how long it took to schedule the interviews? I would imagine that I'm not the only one who feels compelled to ask: Does this mean that there will be more than 150 hired? The Commissioner mentioned more in FY2009, but is 150 the limit for FY2008?

I have more than once heard the rumor that there will be a supplemental certificate (Remember Kingfisher telling us he got a transfer after the current certificate was issued?) If that turns out to be true, then perhaps not all 150 will be hired from the current certificate because I don't think there is enough money in the budget to hire more than the 150 total in fiscal 08. No warranty express or implied. Your mileage may vary.

I wouldn't be surprised if they hire another 50 or so at the end of the calendar year, when they reach the new fiscal year. But I have no doubt they will be hiring 150 in the next 6 weeks.

...Just trying to remind everyone that they should not panic in January if they have not yet received an offer. .[/quote] Ummmmmm, February......they are still gonna be interviewing in January. And not the first of February......(think closer to March). Breathe! Breathe!

globalpanda -
although this is putting the cart before the horse . . . do you know if the training dates for the two classes are set and, if so, what those dates are?

A spokesman for CoSS told the reporter from Cleveland Plain Dealer that training for new ALJs would begin in mid-April. Remember that they want you at your hearing office for a week before the orientation.
I would nevertheless have in mind a contingency plan in case the first orientation class begins in mid-March.
One of my interviewers is on board as an instructor; as of 1/8/08 he had not been provided with a firm date.
