trekker: How did you get your cat to stand next to a possum? Thank dog I'd put my tea down before I read this! They're both darling btw. . Is there something going on the week of 9/9-13? The prices on all the hotels are unbelievably jacked that week. yeah...word has got out that Funky will be in town.... Yup, when I made my reservation at the State, my email confirmation offered drinks with Funky as an (expensive I must note) add-on option.

The word on the street is that drinks or dinner with funky is more expensive and harder to achieve than drinks or dinner with the President because he is getting a large cut of the action. However, the cost of such a venture is well beyond my means and therefore I had to decline such an offer. The real reason being I am there about three days before funky, so we couldn't connect. Yet, I do like the argument that such imbibing is super expensive, of course, and funky is enjoying the attention. LOL!

Yeah...if you can't afford or swing the Drinks WITH Funky deals, then I invite you to make a donation to Drinks FOR Funky. A non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of funk, funkiness and funked up people everywhere.

Devildog, and those who are going the second week of September, it is my understanding that the "million man march" is the same week as testing. Traffic is sure to be a complete mess that week!

Check out uber.com. Classy service and not too pricey for short trips. I used one today and was really pleased with the service.

I know if I look hard enough I will find the answer, but I'm sure someone can tell me which of the 2 Embassy Suites Hotels in DC is used for the interview? Thanks...

I'm thinking cabs will be impossible to get,so I think I'll have to pack my walking shoes! There really is never a shortage of cabs in DC, but I would also add the Uber app to your phone (if you use a smart phone) to call a car for your trip. They show up quickly and often are cheaper than a cab.

I stayed very close to OPM the first day and walked over for the WD and LBMT. Then afterward I hopped in a cab and stayed at the Embassy Suites the night prior to the SI. I found this to be a good mix to reduce stress.

I found this to be a good mix to reduce stress. I stayed in the DuPont Circle area (got a good deal and extended the stay a few days to enjoy the District with my wife) and took an early cab both days, while taking the metro back. That way I felt I had built in for any contingencies. Seemed to work out.

Flew in today (Saturday) as I'm coming from west coast and didn't want to fly in the day before - got what I thought was a good package through Orbitz - flight and hotel through Tuesady is a little over $600. Good hotel that is walkable to both sites.

Good hotel that is walkable to both sites. Sounds like you got a good deal. Coming in from the far west does complicate the travel and make it more expensive, even if you do just come in the previous day, as I did.

I found this to be a good mix to reduce stress. I have been thinking about this option, but was concerned about check out times. If you stay at a hotel close to OPM the night before the WD/LBMT and the SI is the next day at the Embassy Suites, it seems you would have to check out the day of the WD/LBMT, right? How did you make that work being that you are testing the entire day?

I stayed at the Best Western in Georgetown. Surprisingly large rooms but more importantly walkable to OPM and the Embassy Suites and clean and cheap.

hi. most hotels are very open to you leaving your luggage at the hotel if you need to. so you could check out crazy early. leave your bags in the hotel bag room, pick them after the testing, and then move to next hotel. ive done this before and have yet to lose anything. some of these bag rooms are overseen by the porters, who understandably hope for a tip if you need to do this. at other hotels, front desk staff oversee the bags.
