Had the most recent class of ALJs started training at Fall's Church? What happens to them?
The state agency I work for has several points of contact with the Federales and I am waiting to see which agency fails to answer the phone first. Luckily we are funded by the state.

First off, in my testing group was a guy that works for Secret Service but was Marine reserve, activated and deployed to djbouti (spelling?) and had flown home just for the testing. If I remember correctly, he was supposed to come home 1 October. Don't know if he is a member but if so I just want to say semper fi and I hope this shutdown crap didn't interfere with you coming home.
I spent furlough 1 enjoying margaritas, a stogie, cnn and catching fish from my pond. Mrs funky just handed me a two page honey do for tomorrow and thereafter though. Noticed a few chores on the list I normally hire out. Oh well, suppose a little belt tightening is in order.
Anybody want to buy some fresh fish?

I find it interesting that some Agencies and their ALJs are shut down, in toto. Others find that their ALJs are excepted.
The other thing that is interesting is that our "constituency" and our paymasters find no incongruity in expecting us to come to work with no promise of pay when they themselves would never entertain the thought.
I hope that everyone that has to stay home gets indemnified. However, historical precedence notwithstanding, I'm not so sure.

They're scheduled to start Monday the 7th. I'm guessing it won't happen, but I don't know for certain.

I've been thinking about you, TMG, and hoping your first couple of weeks have been going well. :-)

Well the office is great, people wonderful but a shutdown within 7 days of starting a new job is unbelievable.

That would be weird tmg. Welcome to the fed govt. Come to work, you must, but no paycheck for awhile. and minimal staff other than ALJ's.
I did not do much of anything today. It was nice not having to get up and go somewhere or call a sup and explain why I was not coming in. Real nice actually.

There's an 18 hole pitch and putt near my house, and the weather in my precinct of crapland has been amazing. Just wondering which hearing locations are not considered precincts of crapland?

I need to find one of those shirts!
I have been volunteering at my son's school this week. They can use the help and I need the distraction. To add insult to injury, a 10k I was supposed to do Saturday is canceled because it was to start and finish in a national park.
I'm also taking a free class on coursera. They offer free college level classes on a variety of topics.

my colleague left the office last Monday (non bargaining unit-type) betting on a long shutdown and headed for hilton head. I think she had the right idea.

We were instructed that when our agency is closed, it is illegal for us to come to work. We aren't supposed to work at home or even email about work.

Berk you better not make a habit of that casino or soon you will be in the hole and have no paycheck to be able to tide you over. Sorry for the furlough my friend. Well, testing on the same day as you was interesting and I am sure we will see each other again, hopefully in Falls Church for training.

Check out the Non Essential Blues. On The Late Show last night, about 9 minutes into the episode.
