I just received this. I am not sure what the random numbers sprinkled throughout mean if anything.
ADMIN LAW JUDGE PROGRAM OFFICE
OFFICE OF PERSONNEL MGMT
1900 E STREET NW
WASHINGTON DC 20415
Dear XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX,
You recently received a Notice of Results (NOR) indicating that you had successfully completed all parts of the Administrative Law
Judge (ALJ) Examination and that your name and final numerical rating would be placed on the new ALJ register being maintained by
the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM). The purpose of this notice is to provide you with a brief explanation to help you
understand how your ALJ final numerical rating was calculated.
As stated in the ALJ Job Opportunity Announcement, the purpose of the ALJ assessment process is to evaluate applicants on the
competencies* essential to successfully performing the work of an ALJ. Multiple types of assessments were used toward this goal. The
Situational Judgment Test (SJT), Writing Sample (WS), and Experience Assessment (EA) were administered to applicants online.
Applicants were then placed in score order based on performance on the online assessment process (i.e., SJT, WS, and EA), including
any applicable veterans' preference points (added temporarily). The applicants whose scores on the online assessments were among the
higher scored subgroup of all eligible applicants were identified and moved on to the next stage of the assessment process.
Because your online assessment score was among the higher-scored subgroup, you were invited to participate in the in-person Written
Demonstration (WD), Logic-Based Measurement Test (LBMT) , and Structured Interview (SI) portions of the ALJ assessment process.
Applicants were required to achieve a minimum score on the WD and SI to receive a final numerical rating and be added to the register of
eligible applicants for employment consideration.
The competencies measured in the assessment process were combined to determine a total competency score. To compute the total
competency score, the following steps were taken:
2220 The competencies were made equal in importance, so that each competency carried equal weight,
2220 The points earned on each competency were added together to determine the total competency scores for each applicant, and
2220 The total competency scores of all applicants were put on a 1 to 100 scale to establish each applicant1920s numerical rating, excluding
veterans' preference. In this scale, the lowest possible score is 1 and the highest possible score is 100.
A score of 1 would mean only that this individual had the lowest rating relative to other candidates on the register (or was tied for the
lowest rating), not that s/he 1C20failed1D20 the examination or was unqualified in any way. Candidates placed on the register not only have been
determined to be qualified but also have been drawn from the high-scoring group of those who took the online assessments, so their
ratings signify only how they placed relative to others on the same register..
Applicable veterans1920 preference points were added to this score to yield the final numerical rating noted on the NOR. Please note that the
veterans1920 preference points temporarily added to the online assessment (SJT, WS, and EA) score (as discussed above) were not included
in calculating the total competency scores. Instead, veterans1920 preference points were added to the final numerical rating at the end of the
scoring process, after the total competency scores were calculated.
As stated on the NOR, your name will be placed on the new register in order based on your final numerical rating. This list will be used
as a source of names to make referrals to agencies for employment consideration.
We hope this information is helpful to you.
Sincerely,
The Administrative Law Judge Program Office
