We were just told in a staff meeting that the Chicago NHC is closing! Interesting development in that it goes against the centralization model. Wonder what will happen to all those ALJ's? Boom! Now that is a bombshell. Any additional info would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately I have nothing to add but was hoping that the post would prompt feedback from others on the Board more knowledgeable. Like maybe a judge or ALJ candidate there?

Yes, I'm speechless, too. Looks like your post cut off or inadvertently posted prematurely.

Yes, I'm speechless, too. Looks like your post cut off or inadvertently posted prematurely. This sounds like it could be a medically determinable impairment.

I saw an advertisement on TV last night for a new prescription medication that promises to treat inadvertent premature posting. I may have to discuss this with my physician!

According to the thread on this subject, the closure was a rumor and is not happening.

So does anyone know if the transfer list has been worked and offers have been made & accepted - we haven't gotten news of any other transfers for nearly 2 weeks. If so, then perhaps ODAR has been busy making heads or tails of the certs so they can get ready to release the emails!

On September 23 I passed along a report from a very reliable insider that transfers were still occurring then. I am not sure if there have been any subsequent reports of transfer list activity. We did have a report (I don't remember how reliable) that SSA had requested certs but that OPM was busy with the vets and so had not at that time sent SSA lists of eligibles.

Since you can place yourself on five transfer lists, and presuming that you have been initially selected for Crapland, it makes sense to put yourself on at least one list that would be better for you than where you are, but for which you have a reasonable chance of being picked up relatively quickly. You can always make a gametime decision when offered that location. By the time you've received that offer, you'll have a better feel for what working in Crapland is really like, and whether you can live with waiting for your ideal location to become available. You'll also know better how quickly the line for each of your other locations moves, how long you'll likely have to wait if you opt not to take the offer, and perhaps some idea of the level of (dys)function in the various offices in which you have an interest. One of my five was a location for which I was the prettiest girl in a one girl beauty pageant. I took the transfer and couldn't be happier with my new location. Good luck, all.
