I should add that a colleague in my office did receive an offer today, for Indiana, with a late September start date. So offers are still, apparently, rolling out for the 2d batch.

An offer from Bob? To be an ALJ? Today, 8 Aug; therefore after BL (who may now lose her caboose status)? This is a bit confusing if true as Bob (qouting BL) told her she was last - what do we think this means/what happened? I haven't had a chance to speak with my colleague directly other than to congratulate him. As a newbie to this process I have no idea what this could mean.

Perhaps BL is the caboose for the August group, or perhaps someone changed their mind and they hired someone else. Who knows. You will know it's over when 8/25 rolls around. All hires for both groups will be done.

But Bob definitely told me that I was the last one. Maybe they found room for a few more? Fingers crossed for more offers!!!

I will be lifting a glass in a sincere toast to you all this afternoon--try to stay on an even keel this weekend!

If you could be so kind to get some more details from your lucky colleague, that would help lower the blood pressure of many first certers.

Not sure where to post this ...
I received an email on Friday from SSA HQs with housekeeping/reminder information.
The email was sent with all addressees listed in the "To" line. (Don't know if that is standard procedure or inadvertent - I tend to send out group emails using the bcc line)
The introductory text referred to both report dates, but, the addressees appeared to run from a-z with folks some of whom who I know are in the 1st class.
I counted 36 addresses receiving the email. If they sent out two such emails, my uneducated guess would be there have about 72 hires.
How does that jive with all you data miners and the numbers you have hypothesized between the 1st and 2nd class?

In past years, the estimated board reports were more along the lines of 60% or so reporting, so we have definitely gained membership! This is great! We have more accuracy than ever before it seems.

Per Deputy CALJ, all hiring in for this cert is complete. 43 hires for the August class and 27 hires for the September class. Good luck to everyone in the next round!

And of those groups 12 in the august class are insiders and 5 in the September class are insiders (defined as people currently working for the agency)

Very different from the roughly 50/50 that Funky posted. I wonder which is more accurate? If it is the 25% number, does this indicate a trend that will continue through the second cert, or a statistical anomaly that will be corrected in the second cert?

I was Funky's source of the 50/50 insider/outsider statistic. This information was given to me by a person whom I consider reliable who told me that statistic was quoted to the union in a meeting. To my knowledge it was nothing more than a description of the incoming class of new judges from the first cert. Turns out it was wrong. Seems like the person who told me was misinformed. End of story.

Thanks mamaru. But not sure it was "wrong." Depends on the informants definition of "insider". Maybe the info today refers to it as ssa insiders while the person whi told the union was meaning "already feds"? Be interesting to see what percentage of the 70 were already gov employees.

I guess the question is, did Puzzle Palace sufficiently learn how to work the certs to their satisfaction? Or are they still a youthful Mick Jagger bemoaning their lack thereof despite the most rigorous and competitive testing ever instituted by OPM? A followup might be, why only 27 in the September class? Is there an infrastructure insuffcientcy? Not enough staff? While I am loathe to engage in WAGs, informed speculation is almost always useful...
