I will be taking a hiatus from the Board in honor of my bulldog who crossed the Rainbow Bridge last night. She was almost 11 1/2 years old and had developed a chemodactoma a while back and was suffering. I did the humane thing (one of the hardest decisions I had to make in my life) and stopped her suffering. Her quality of life was gone. She will be missed greatly. Take care and good luck to all as I do not know when I will be back on the Board again right now. I just wanted you to know, if I do not post for a while.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear this. You know you did exactly the right thing, but it is so hard to do, as many of us know from first hand experience. Be good to yourself, and treasure all those good memories of that long life.

I'm so sorry to hear this! I am thinking about you. We had to make the same decision in June. Our bulldog was also 11.5, and she had congestive heart failure. Ending her suffering was the right thing to do, but I miss her every day.

Sorry for your loss MPD. Having a long time pet, and having to make the decision you made, is very difficult. Over time, the good things are what you will remember. Good luck going forward. We anticipate your quick return to the board.

Please accept my condolences. I'm sure Moopig was a beautiful member of your family.
She had only one fault - she was mortal.

MPD all dogs go to heaven. You did the right thing and I am going to be facing the same in the near future. Breaks my heart because we have had our mutt since 2001.

MPD, I am so sorry you lost moopig, I didn't realize it was going to happen so soon. Thank you for all your kind words last month when I had to make the same hard, but correct, decision for my pup. I hope you enjoy thinking about the good times with moopig, instead of obsessing about this board - we'll be fine while you take a much deserved hiatus. Future is right - all dogs (and cats) do go to heaven . . .

So sorry to hear you've lost a furkid. It takes a special strength to make that kind of decision. Well done.
Rainbow Bridge
'There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.
When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. All the animals who have been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Her bright eyes are intent; her eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly she begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, her legs carrying her faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.' unknown.

My condolences MPD. Such a hard thing to go through. Her pictures have made her an honorary member of the board. We will miss her too.

Really sorry to hear about that MPD. Our pug is waiting at the rainbow bridge. A couple months ago the cute 14 year old guy developed grand mal seizures. Over the course of 3 days he had numerous terrifying seizures so we made the call. It's so tough to say goodbye but as humane owners we have to do it. It sounds like you made the right call as sad as it is. The overwhelming sadness will start to turn to joyful memories about all the great times you and your dog had together. See you soon.

So sorry to hear, MPD. You get so attached to them in the short time they're with us, and they become family. Looking forward to hearing from you again.

MPD: I hope you take some comfort in the knowledge that your little friend was well-loved and provided such love back to you. Love endures. I know you'll keep that love alive. Best wishes, Surfdude.

MPD, Sorry for your loss. My wife and I are preparing ourselves and our children for the same reality as our 11 year old rescue dog ages and begins to fail. Even the thought is difficult. Best wishes to you as you move through the process of grieving.

I'm so sorry. Like you and others have said, we had to make that decision for our loving mutt last year. My friend painted her portrait from a photo and gave it to me as a gift. Still miss her.

I am so sorry, pets often become our family - it's a wonderful bond but comes with so much grief when they go. I love the Will Rogers quote: If there are no dogs in heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went. AMEN.
