Appx 19 spots are reported as taken. If we are missing 10 offers that have not reported on the city poll AND if it is true the training class will accommodate 40ish, then we still can anticipate at least 10 offers tomorrow. Positive thoughts people! Things are moving fast here. Where was it reported that they will hire 40 for the January class? There was the post from the AALJ newsletter, but it reports: "The Agency has received a new certification and will be interviewing in January for new ALJ hires. The first class of 44 will come on board the Tuesday after Presidents’ Day ... ." This says they have pulled a new cert and expect interviews in January for a February hire of 44, with more to come in March, June and July. No mention is made of the January class. Are people assuming the cert referenced is the one already pulled, or is there a new cert in the wings? As Ace said, "Interesting times."

Are people assuming the cert referenced is the one already pulled, or is there a new cert in the wings? As Ace said, "Interesting times." I was thinking the facts were just a little off on this. I know there have been other misstatements in some other newsletters. I think they are confusing "first class" with the 2nd class, the first being the known start of Jan 26th. The email from OCAJ said 20-30 for the Jan 26th start, and hires for every other month through Sept. I keep HOPING they will go ahead with a full 44 this first Jan start since things are moving faster than they probably thought they would given the holidays. I think we will know for sure tomorrow if there are continued calls. They haven't hit the 30 yet, so maybe just a few more, but if they keep going... maybe they changed it to a bigger class. The bottom line is, there are classes all through 2015 that will total up to 250 hires! And THAT is a good thing.

No worries, MPD. I just felt that post was a little insulting to those of us who have not been, and those of us who ultimately will not be, selected. While SSA may not be able to be as picky as it has been in the past given the number of hires, the math tells us not everyone is going to end up in a black robe and to suggest that those who do not are on the fringe struck me as unkind. Only time will tell if it is accurate. I agree with you 100% mamaru. Further, considering the experience of some candidates at the SSA interview, some things are beyond our control. All we can do is wait and hope. It behooves everyone to be kind and treat others the way you would like to be treated because whether you acquire a position or not everyone deserves courtesy and comraderie from other board members. There are always those people in a much worse position (healthwise, monetarily, or other ways) than you, so count your blessings and be happy no matter what the outcome in this process. This applies to me and everyone else on this board. Just to be clear what I was speaking to was whether candidates will be deemed as "not recommended" and three struck based on the interview alone. I was not implying that anyone who does not ultimately get an offer is a fringe candidate. I simply think that for the purposes of "three striking" a weak interview standing alone will not be enough for SSA to invoke the three strike rule and remove a candidate from future consideration unless something comes to light on the background check that shows a candidate is unsuitable. Not everyone will get an offer, but I think most people will have multiple shots as long as their cities continue to come up.

I agree with Tiger. Lol Just kidding, of course. Tiger is a fart smeller....uh, a smart feller. Funky,
I was about to IM you that I just gave you a softball to slam out of the ballpark, but you had just signed off at work. I knew I could count on the Funk Master to knock it out of the park. Just got back from pizza and a beer with our fellow board member to discuss today's event. Later

Hey, that's amazing KittyLaw. I just got back to my apartment from having pizza with a fellow board member as well. We were comparing notes about the new hires. I guess great minds think alike. ht

HT, you made me spit out my post-work beer! Makes me miss everyone from training. And Funky, I hear someone is really interested in becoming your new boss in KY. No names, but he works three doors down from me. Apparently your description of the area as the "Austin of the Appalachians" has him convinced.

You need to go back to your office neighbor really quick and tell him to proceed with caution. The Funkmeister never really lived in Austin, he only heard stories about it and PM'ed folks who had been there. I lived there. Austin is more like living in Santa Fe, NM or Reno, NV. Middlesboro is much more relaxed -- like the city of my alma mater - Bowling Green, KY. Hilltopper

Amazingly, KittyLaw, we are in total agreement. If he was having pizza and a beer with you, he definitely wasn't the sharpest pencil in the pack .. unless of course he got you to buy. Then, I'd think pretty highly of him, myself. So, who bought? HT

Gee - That's gonna make me feel so much better if I don't get an offer! I got to tell you that when I finally backtracked enough to figure out what you and MPG were talking about, I came across your post first without realizing it was the post in question. I busted out LOL in my office, and I was looking for it and still didn't catch the serious tone of it until after laughing. I can vouch for MPG, he's never went tigerlaw (pre-ALJ tigerlaw) on anyone, but I said all that to say this...
Every single person that made the OPM register is highly qualified for this job!!! And if you can figure the "who, what, why and how" of ODAR's hiring process, you are too smart and talented for this job. Even if you have a high opinion of yourself (and I do), you will be humbled beyond your beliefs when you meet your fellow new ALJs in Falls Church. I'm convinced and always will be convinced that I was the dumbest person in those two rooms.
Tiger, MPD and I are fine. I do have a rather tongue in cheek sense of humor, but I really did NOT think that post was funny. I think you, MPD, and I agree that you can be smart and talented enough to avoid the pitfalls described in the post I was responding to and still not be selected. There are lots more fine candidates than spots to be filled.

I did misinterpret your comment and agree with this analysis. I think, as a group, the odds are with us, but that doesn't necessarily mean the stars will align in such a way that all of the "recommendeds" will end up with a slot.

I also had pizza and beer last night whilst watching Boardwalk Empire. The thought came to me in between bloody beatings and shootings: hey, the faster this moves along, the sooner a REFRESH will occur! Congratulations to all the new ALJS, and best wishes to everyone else who waits for further word.

Perhaps, a Baltimore offer might have been made today according to the poll on city offers. Furthermore, I can't believe how much faster the offers and acceptances have moved along this time compared to the first cert.
