Since offers are on the way in a week, I am jumping the gun and posting a place for candidates to list their acceptance of offers and the location to which they are going. Also if you are told your report date please post it so we know who is going to which training session.
This is an exciting time for you. Once again remember the courtesy call to you HOCALJ, if you have one. If there isn't one ask for the HOD. Thanks and good luck.

Second the recommendation on the call. The HOCJ is usually the last one to be informed officially. So don't be surprised to get a response akin to "What?"

There is a rumor the delay was over loss of an ALJ office in one location because the HOCALJ resigned and took that office. This is rumor only. The call list had to be redone and vetted by personnell dept.
Here's hoping the offers start today.

What do you mean by "the call list had to be redone"? That seems to support the rumor that changes had to be made for some reason or another.

What do you mean by "the call list had to be redone"? That seems to support the rumor that changes had to be made for some reason or another. I would think that would mean that if an HOCALJ decided to leave HOC duties and assume only ALJ duties that such a move would fill one of the 150 slots and the candidate who may have been slotted for an offer at that slot would have to be moved to another slot, which would cause another move, and another move, and another move......(As the King of Siam said: "Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.....") But Ah'm jus' guessin' here.....

???Hey what happened to 150? The press release says 148. Where did the other 2 go? When a HOCALJ decides to stop being a part of management, they return to regular ALJ duties and take up a slot. We have heard of at least one person doing this after the certificate was issued. It is likely that it happened in 2 offices that were on the certificate. Therefore, 2 less FTEs available for new hires.

We have heard of at least one person doing this after the certificate was issued. It is likely that it happened in 2 offices that were on the certificate. Therefore, 2 less FTEs available for new hires. I'll have to think back to my RO experience years ago, but is it correct that if a HOCALJ steps down to being a regular ALJ they take up an FTE? They've already got an FTE and a HOCALJ can step down pretty much anytime he/she wants. So I can't see that there are 2 less FTEs because of HOCALJs stepping down...that is if he/she stays in his/her own office. Now if a transfer is within the same region, there is still an FTE available in that region because the ALJ "took" his/her FTE with him/her and didn't fill one opened for a new hire. Make sense? I have a feeling it's something else. I've heard rumors that Ft Worth was fighting even getting a new ALJ much less a transfer...which they ended up with. Don't know...just my thoughts.

It's not so much that the HOCALJ stepping down takes up an FTE. He/she isn't filling one of the ALJ slots to be filled out of the 150 (now 175 total) this fiscal year. Rather, if the HOCALJ opted to remain in his/her home office, he/she is now occupying the line ALJ office that was intended to be filled through this cert. The Space Allocation Standards and AALJ contract are very specific about the kind of office an ALJ must have. So, no office typically equals no opening in that HO, though, as someone else pointed out, the inverse is not necessarily true.
If this is what happened, it doesn't mean that the Commish can't hire the same number of people budgeted. It just means that the "slot" for that location is closed and that "slot" will have to be used for another location, meaning it will be on the next cert.
In Ft. Worth, an ALJ out of Portland (former HOCALJ, by the way) transferred to the only opening there AFTER the cert was already issued. That effectively knocked Ft. Worth off the cert and subtracted one possible placement from the 150.
