Minneapolis, MN (Bridgeport)
Of all the cities on the list of places that ODAR would pay you to transfer the biggest shocker to me was Minneapolis. If for no other reason than there hasn't been a lot of hiring there from this register. Also while I have very limited experience with Minneapolis. I was there for a few days in college it seems like a fun city with lots going on.
Minneapolis (Listeni/ˌmɪniˈæpəlɪs/) is the county seat of Hennepin County,[4] and larger of the Twin Cities, the 14th-largest metropolitan area in the United States, containing approximately 3.8 million residents.[1] As of 2014, Minneapolis is the largest city in the state of Minnesota and 46th-largest in the United States with 407,207 residents.[2] Minneapolis and Saint Paul anchor the second-largest economic center in the Midwest, behind Chicago.[5]
Minneapolis lies on both banks of the Mississippi River, just north of the river's confluence with the Minnesota River, and adjoins Saint Paul, the state's capital. The city is abundantly rich in water, with twenty lakes and wetlands, the Mississippi River, creeks and waterfalls, many connected by parkways in the Chain of Lakes and the Grand Rounds National Scenic Byway. It was once the world's flour milling capital and a hub for timber, and today is the primary business center between Chicago and Seattle, with Minneapolis proper containing America's fifth-highest concentration of Fortune 500 companies.[6][7] As an integral link to the global economy, Minneapolis is categorized as a global city.[8]
Prince is actually from Minneapolis and popularized the Minneapolis sound. He is also a musical genius capable of playing a huge range of instruments, writing brilliant music, and producing music.
Bob Dylan is from Duluth but he first started playing coffee houses in Minneapolis. I am a far bigger fan of Dylan's writing than his performing but it is without doubt that he changed music.

Know someone who moved from the Bay Area of CA to Minneapolis (talk about a change of weather/culture) and absolutely loves it. No ties or connections to the area other than (to me) an outsized fascination with the artist formerly known as Prince or his purple highness. Not that I don't appreciate Prince's vast talent but this person was what I would call an extreme fan.

When I moved away, always thought I'd return to raise my family. But gol darn it, if there ain't a lot of great places out there to raise a family, speaking of which, I better get to bed! Damn fine place!

Tupelo, MS is the county seat and the largest city of Lee County, Mississippi. It is also the seventh-largest city in the state. It is situated in northeast Mississippi, between Memphis, Tennessee, and Birmingham, Alabama, and is accessed by U.S. Route 78. As of the 2010 census, the population was 34,546, with the surrounding counties of Lee, Pontotoc and Itawamba supporting a population of 138,976. Tupelo is a frequent flyer and I hear they have a ton of vacancies right now. The most familiar of Tupelo's sons to us on the Board is our own funkyodar. He has achieved the brass ring and then won the lotto by getting to transfer home in less than a year. But the world knows Tupelo for one thing only and that is it is the birthplace of Elvis. My favorite Elvis song is "Suspicious Minds". Perhaps the more appropriate song for those of us still on the register is "Return to Sender" the ultimate FOAD song. There is another song that talks about Tupelo.

Middlesboro, KY* From Wikipedia: Middlesboro (local /ˈmɪdəlzbɜrə/)[2] is a home rule-class city[3] in Bell County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 10,334 at the 2010 U.S. census,[4] while its micropolitan area had a population of 69,060.[5] It is located 1 mile west of the Cumberland Gap[2] and is the largest city in southeastern Kentucky.[6] It is located entirely between Pine Mountain and the Cumberland Mountains in the Middlesboro Basin, which geologists believe to be an enormous meteor crater (one of three known astroblemes in the state). The city claims to be the only one in the United States built entirely inside such a crater,[7] as well as the home of ragtime music and the oldest continuously-played golf course in the country.[8] funkyodar's description of buying a drink in Middlesboro. I understand he only learned of this 2nd or 3rd hand. Middlesboro Drink of the Day:
Step 1: Go to ATM and get $40.00. Do not touch money with bare hands or fingers, as who knows if they can lift fingerprints off that?
Step 2: Make sure bills are nonsequential in serial number. No need to go throwing a "federal agent" vibe around.
Step 3: Proceed to nearest auto mechanic's shop and casually ask to speak to Mr. Lightening.
Step 4: If you lucked up and found the right shop, follow directions given to really sketchy "house" and give the $40 to the occupant designated "Skeeter".
Step 5: Follow directions given by the particular "Skeeter" you met to a a hollowed out log on "that road that runs out by the state park".
Step 6: Make mad dash down hill thru brush to log, reach in hand, grab jar and run back to vehicle.
Step 7: Carefully drive back home with Jar concealed in highly intricate and perhaps intimate location careful to follow all traffic rules and to avoid all speed bumps. Trust me on the speed bumps.
Step 8: Carefully walk from vehicle to abode.
Step 9: Pour contents of Jar thru charcoal filter just to be safe, mix with fruit juice and enjoy.
Step 10: Pray the car radiator the concoction was run thru was properly cleaned of deadly antifreeze. Barf. Repeat.
(This is just for amusement. I, of course, would never partake of illegal whiskey nor do I wish to imply such illegal activity happens in this area, despite what may or may not be seen on the Discovery channel. Also, the names have not been changed, to protect the innocent.)Middlesboro claims to be the birth place of Ragtime. If that is in fact true there is a startling dearth of ragtie performers from there. Van "Piano Man" Walls was a local. He is naturally playing the piano on this one. *The only coverage Paducah gets from me is that it closely resembles the discussion of Peoria up the thread a ways. Also the National Quilting museum is there. When I was 13 I spent an inglorious afternoon with my mother and grandmother there. Perhaps that is why I have so little love for an otherwise typical small American city. oops, meant to post this with middlesboro, pretty sure mr. yoakum is from Eastern ky

Hattiesburg, MS
I have family near Hattiesburg and that isn't necessarily a good thing. Its a sleepy little place and that isn't necessarily a bad thing. If you like mild winters, sweet tea, and a low cost of living you might like Hattiesburg.
Hattiesburg is a city in Mississippi, bisected by the county line between Forrest County (where it is the county seat[2]) and Lamar County. The population was 47,556 in 2013.[3] It is the principal city of the Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Metropolitan Statistical Area which encompasses Forrest, Lamar and Perry counties.
Bo Diddley was from nearby McComb.
Jimmy Buffett is from nearby Pascagoula. Music starts about 1:30 in the video.
But my favorite Jimmy song is "One Particular Harbor"
Chris Ledoux was also from Biloxi.

I have a question about Jackson, MS our next City of the Day. I know about Tupelo from Funky and have a sense of Hattiesburg from visiting relatives in the area over many summers. I have very little experience in Jackson and almost no knowledge of it other than as a place to drive through on the way to New Orleans. However, if the refresh allows me to expand my GAL I would seriously consider adding it.
So there have been a few new hires there lately and I am hoping someone recently added to Jackson can shed some light on the city.
Jackson is the capital of and the largest city in the state of Mississippi. It is located in Hinds County on the Pearl River, which drains into the Gulf of Mexico, and it is part of the Jackson Prairie region of the state.[4][5] The city is named after General Andrew Jackson, who was honored for his role in the Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812, and later was elected as US president.
Robert Johnson perhaps the most famous Blues Man to ever live sold his soul at a crossroads in Mississippi.

As a native of the Mississippi Delta, I have to jump in here, Gaidin. I don't know that anyone knows where he was born, but the great Robert Johnson made his name in the Mississippi Delta - north of Jackson. The Crossroads is in Clarksdale, MS, at the intersection of Highway 49 and 61. It's a small town south of Memphis. I've actually visited what is purported to be his burial site, near Greenwood, MS. Great musician and great music!

I think there was a hire there but then that person ended up in another city, Orland Park? Not sure but no doubt if someone was hired there they will speak up.

not to say the same could not happen in Mass or Minn as well. and when Va gets snow, i shudder thinking about that.
