Interesting information about hiring projections. Any thoughts on when they may begin accepting new applications? Thanks I think that's a ways off, depending on what the results are from allowing many previously excluded people to finish the testing. Starting from a refresh is a very long expensive process. I'd say another year, at a minimum.

I agree with 71stretch. What you do have going for you is the report linked in an earlier post saying SSA still wants to hire a lot more ALJs, which should hasten the Day of the Refresh. But I don't see that hastened day coming sooner than a year from now, and when it comes it'll begin a long slog, as documented in the threads on this Board.

Only two months ago, top management at ODAR was replaced. I am the newest of NODARs here and don't know much. It's generally true in organizations, though, that when there is a sea change, things stop for a while for reassessment and adjustment. We don't know what -- or who -- will still be around in the near future or if all processes will continue as they were planned before the management shift. I would expect that everything is under review right now.

Wow - yet one more roller-coaster factor on this crazy ride! Thanks for the intel, Liz.

Add into that the uncertainty of the FY 2016 budget. If we go the route of the CR, the agency operates under only a portion of budget it had for FY 2015. (I think it is 80%.) But it has a definite adverse effect on trying to plan for the expenditures that come with bringing on new judges. It can mean less hiring until the SSA budget is passed and ODAR knows what it will be allocated from the big SSA budget.

Lizdarcy, there wasn't as much of a replacement of top management as there was a game of musical chairs. Almost everyone is still on the playground, just in different chairs. This thing is like a giant ship, it never really makes any startling turns, only slight leanings and then regains it's original course. The biggest change we have seen was in the hiring process with the infighting between OPM and ODAR. Otherwise, it is pretty much the same grind, day in, day out..

Is there any truth to this: if a person was on the last register, then took the test again and made the register and certs, that they will not be considered for hiring? Or that the prior application information is weighed heavily?
I know there is an old poll asking how many of us improved our scores, so there are many candidates in this pool.
My thinking is that this appears to be a strike or elimination of which I don't think anyone was notified? I have some of the same references - some of which the relationship has changed- and I wonder if the opinions are compared; and it doesn't seem fair to consider a prior application...some of the information is in excess of the time frames identified in the present application? Still contemplating. Appreciate input.

I know someone who sat on the prior register for some time, interviewed and was never hired---they made the cert again after this new testing process and were hired.

I don't think they keep all the info from the old register. There is at least one regular poster on this board who was on the old register, made certs, was three struck, went through the new process, got on this register and was hired. It's a fresh start, as far as I know.

I think they want to build up to 2,000 ALJs. They have 1279 according to my NOSSCR monthly.

The reports available to us compare how we are doing to the number of ALJs in the system and that is where I got the number. It does not distinguish any senior judges or those getting ready to retire.

Nice avatar, Ace! I'm guessing the Midnight household is already stocking up on TP and other goodies for Halloween?
