Strom Thurmond once stated during a re-election campaign that his opponent's sister, a tv actress, was "a known thespian".

In 1981 I was offered the chance to be a highly paid trainer of (foreign) local indigenous forces (read: mercenary). That would have been an intriguing career alternative.

If I weren't a lawyer AND I was independently wealthy, I'd be a singer in a rock 'n roll band, and in a blues band, and also a cabaret singer and a jazz singer. Basically, I'd be singing all the time.

I actually am happy to be a lawyer although the acting gig could be fun again. Cool thing is, you can do both. Our local Federal District Court judge has been a practicing thespian, as well as one of our ALJs and innumerable members of the local bar. And let's not forget Paschal English, a Superior Court Judge in Georgia, who a few seasons back was on Survivor. Although he lasted several weeks, and was not a young man, alas, he did not become independently wealthy!

If I weren't a lawyer, I'd be a swingdancer, Lindy hopper and ballroom dancer. My friends on this board will now know my identify....

Boy, another reason to like all of you on this Board - we are a singin' and a dancin' bunch! ALJ school should be one large party! If I weren't a lawyer...singing/dancing on Broadway is HIGH on the list, but may require more ACTUAL TALENT than I possess.
Alternatives include book-ish jobs such as a librarian or working in a bookstore.
Speaking of books, specifically "Gone with the Wind", I just last night finished Donald McCaig's "sequel" to that great novel, "Rhett Butler's People". I thought it was only O.K.--not as good as the original, which didn't surprise me, but not even as good as Jacob's Ladder, also by McCaig. (I read both at the insistence of my step-mother. One should ALWAYS honor requests of one's step-mother!) The characters, of course are familiar and interesting, but don't seem as well-developed or complex as in GWW.
No doubt I'll be doing more reading (=escape) this weekend, maybe I'll post more book reviews next week, and I invite other reviewers as well.

Well, you guys know this already, but I'd be a ski bum! I'd be a bartender at night. Testtaker would sing the Blues, and when I had a break Yogi and could do some East Coast Swing. I'd ski during the day with Snowman and other "studly" skier candidates! (Did Stein apply, really?)
Hey, wait a minute- that sounds a lot better than the ALJ job!
