The press release coming first makes no sense. Typically, hiring is done and then there is a press release. My bet is that at least some calls will go out before a press release is issued.

I was just explaining to my boss the theory (to meet the hypothetical, not logically derived) that they would want the first news in the media to come from them. Before a press release, any hiring done could "leak" to the media, causing stories to "run" that don't have the official spin. If the PR speculating earlier in the thread is accurate, SSA will want to control the initial information the media gets, so that when the media determines which way their bias should fall (pro- or anti- SSA), it is more likely to be pro-. |

I am wondering too. I guess I'm not enough of an "insider" to really know.
My guess, for what it's worth, is that the "press release" is a red herring, and the staff is holed-up making certain everything is exactly how they want it, and getting ready to release the long-awaited results. I stand by my guess of tomorrow afternoon!
And, I'm thinking Samuel Smith Nut Brown Ale! That's right, Tootsie's not a cheap date!
