There is a Gary, North Dakota, too. Just think, two competing Gary ODAR offices.

In this thread and others, there is posted information about ODAR-Valpo which is consistent with my personal knowledge of Valpo. Looks like a great office.

St. Petersburg, FL Tampa, FL Covington, GA i feel like we have recently touched on cities between Florida and Indiana in our various discussions. so let's do these fine cities next. I'll comment on Tampa Bay. I'm a big fan of the sunshine state and have spent a lot of time there over the years. The two main drawbacks are oppressive heat half the year and horrible traffic. Tampa Bay has amazing beaches, the water is beautiful, and the boating cannot be beat. There's a wide range in home prices and everything from trailers to new construction to condos to mansions. Both Tampa and St Pete downtowns have seen a lot of development in recent years with high rises, museums, and nightlife. St Pete ODAR is in downtown but Tampa ODAR near the airport (which has many flights at good prices). Public schools are by county in FL. I've heard that Hillsborough (Tampa) and Pinellas (St Pete) have some decent options and good magnet programs. Orlando and Sarasota are close by for some weekend fun. And no state income tax!

lets do New Haven and Dover, De. next. my preference between the 2 would be Dover. quieter(unless race cars are around), warmer, and closer to the Atlantic are why. less congested and less smoggy to boot.
anyone else?

Dover has the Firefly music festival (which I will be attending in just a few short weeks - yay!). Other than this, I know nothing about Delaware but this is a plus in my book.

Delaware is a nice state. flat and boring in parts but really, not too bad. Close enough to Philly, DC, Baltimore, and Annapolis for excitement. Well kept state. there is big military base in Dover and it's state capital.

New Haven is the home of Yale University. It is at the junction of I-95 and I-91. Traffic gets congested even in the middle of a weekday.
Yep, it's congested, and can be dirty and has its very sketchy areas. On the other hand, the Yale campus has some lovely parts, and there is a charming Colonial-era town green. There's a great theater there (http://www.shubert.com/). Lots of cultural events. Yale New Haven Hospital is top notch, if being close to good medical facilities is important to you. There is a VA hospital a few miles away in West Haven.
New Haven is right on Long Island sound. True, it's not the ocean, but it's pretty darn close. There are beaches all along the coastline there. If you want big waves, you'll have to cross the state line into Rhode Island.
New Haven is pricey, but it's in the NYC locality pay area and is way less pricey than NYC.

Serious worrywart is on-point 100%, some more info: The New Haven area has some great towns close by with excellent school districts (Branford, Guilford, and Cheshire come to mind), all are affordable on the ALJ salary + they are under a 30 minute commute. CT is close to NYC and Boston, there's lots of coastline with beaches and boating in the summer. Close to RI beaches and the beautiful berkshires. New Haven ODAR is downtown and within walking distance of many restaurants, Yale cultural activities, Amtrak, a good location. Bradley airport (btw Hartford and Springfield) is under one hour away and has decent flight options + prices.

Dover HO is within commuting distance of Wilmington which is on the Amtrak NE Corridor with frequent train service to DC + NYC. SEPTA commuter rail to Philly and its airport is there as well. Wilmington is nice, many new condo developments on the canals + near the train station and right off of I-95. Plus, DE has no sales tax!!!

If Peter Minuit cheated the Indians when he bought Manhattan, the Indians made up for it when Gov. Fenwick and his merry band of Quaker escapees settled in the "Chesapeake Highlands" located between the swamps surrounding Dover. The sense that they were somehow swindled by the Indians has soured the temperament of the inhabitants of Dover, including the ODAR there. The speed patrols catch people just up from 500 Lockerman Street, for not slowing from 35 to 25 mph more quickly, while you can roar down the adjacent Delaware Tunpike at 80 mph. It is three hours from DC, a good two from Balmer or Annapolis, or the City of Brotherly Love and an hour to hour and a half to a good beer bar or crab shack or beach. Bombay Hook is nearby if you like hiking in tidal swamps, but for me, the city and the Hook is for the birds.
