If these numbers are accurate, or even close, I think its a clear indication that OPM's response to SSA's complaint in the congressional hearing that the register just doesn't have enough names on it to meet SSA's hiring goals has been taken seriously. This suggests the response to that complaint is to expand the register drastically. I suppose that's good news for those wanting to get on the register. But remember, all getting on the register gets you is a sense of accomplishment... not even a t-shirt. .... Clearly you haven't been to my Etsy Store, featuring the highly popular "I made it onto the OPM ALJ register, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt" design. Available in a variety of colors and styles, including crewneck, v-neck or tank top. I'm considering adding coffee mugs and baseball caps. Well, I'm being very optimistic here and working on crocheting some red white and blue doilies that say "ALJ" on them, which can be used as coasters for your coffee mug or snappy display-type holders for your ALJ badges. It's not too early to start your holiday shopping for the ALJ-candidate in your life

Not so much snark as trying to get their attention and let them know there is a lot of information on the board they should be reading. I have been a moderator here since the inception of the board. Never before have I felt it necessary to resort to comments such as I have been making in the past couple of months. It is most frustrating. Thank you for "getting it" phoenixrisingALJ. And thank you for laying it out for them. You are in the top three of your class! Pixie. Pixie this might help you and the moderation. I would suggest that newbies on their own read the forum, because I know it helped me at feel more comfortable during the process when I went through it in 2013. People often seek advice on what they should do to prepare for this application process. One thing that seemed to help me was that I hit that little number at the bottom of this forum and went to the last page (currently page 90) and began reading. I read from the earliest posts to the most recent. It took several days but it was an enjoyable journey. Reading what others asked, discussed, hypothesized, etc. Getting to "know" old legends who have come and gone, people who still pop up, and people still assisting along with those in similar situations. Many threads required nothing more than a quick skim, while others required an investment to get the nuggets of gold. Some threads seemed worthless at first glance -- like people getting offers from applications long past -- until I read them and found encouragement where I didn't expect it. There have been fascinating and helpful discussions, joyful celebrations, heartbreak, and humor. During this process of getting a job as an ALJ there will be a lot of hurry up and wait. We are about to get to the wait period (a lot of us are in it now). During the wait make sure you continue to improve yourself. You can start right here by reading what those who came before us discussed. Maybe you don't want to go all the way back to the beginning because you're worried about the time investment. My advice is to at least go back to the start of this 2013 application as it's most applicable. You'll find a wealth of information that can help. If nothing else, it'll make you more educated about the process and better at knowing what is an uncharted topic.

My product line is expanding rapidly. I'm gonna be rich, rich I tell ya!! Maybe one of those "EASY" buttons, too. Definitely need some OPM themed stress balls.

Yes, he did. He used them as a stress relief mechanism. That was the first thing I thought of when Daring Greatly mentioned stress balls. Pixie

They were relatively large ball bearings, at least in the film:

I think that is where I would be headed. That's part of the Smithsonian ' s National Air and Space Museum -- which is now home to the Enterprise.
I was actually at NASA about a month ago. Too bad I don't like numbers any better than I do or my career might have taken a different path.

The Smithsonian is an easy walk from OPM. You will all be fortunate if there is no government shutdown when you are in DC to test. I've never seen the Mall and the Smithsonian Metro station so empty.

What I NEED to know is--how far from OPM's hotel row is the Smithsonian? If I go, I gotta go see the freshly restored Enterprise!!!! Judgymcjudgypants Judgy: All of the Smithsonian buildings ring from the National Monument along the Mall to the Capitol - up one side of Constitutional Ave and down Independence Ave. It is quite a distance to walk - but with time and good shoes it is manageable as it is very flat. DC has bikes you can rent and use and return to stops up and down the mall - so in good weather that is a great way to see the Mall and the buildings. Also there is a very good metro system here. It is very clean in comparison to most cities as we have metro police who will actually give citations to those who try to carry food and drink onboard metros. We are undergoing a massive renovation to the system that will hopefully not impact any aspects that out of towners for ALJ testing need to worry about. But once there is a date for testing I am sure I or another DC person will post if there is anything Board members need to worry about. Picture a really large flattened rectangle. OPM is on the Constitution side of town and Air & Space is across from HHS/HUD - closer to the Capitol on the Independence side of town. While there is a metro station that says SMITHSONIAN - beware - that location may in fact be far from the particular Smithsonian building you are seeking. To my mind Air & Space is closer to the L'Enfant or Federal Center metro stations that the Smithsonian metro stop. Also as another poster mentioned - Air & Space has an annex building called the Udvar-Hazy Ctr out in Virginia near Dulles Airport that has entire planes as the structure is essentially 2 large airplane hangers. I think I actually enjoyed touring that more than Air & Space downtown. So if you fly into Dulles - plan time on arrival or departure to stop in for a tour airandspace.si.edu/udvar-hazy-center
