Since it's the end of the FY reporting period, let's go back to the subject title of thread: I issued just a few less than 500 decisions this FY, and per the ALJ disposition data report, that ranks me at 460 out of 1585 nationally, 127 out of 406 regionally. Assuming a couple hundred new ALJs who haven't ramped up or those who are managers/union bigwigs, this still means that only about 1/3 of full-bore ALJs met the goal.

I'm JUST over 500, and solidly in the top quarter of the 1585. I imagine a bunch of folk will crank out dispositions this week to eke past 500. Really would be nice if our Agency would give us clear data, such that we didn't need to share our reading of the scant tealeaves available. But, given that this forum largely exists to help applicants stumble through the opaque hiring process, shouldn't be surprising that the Agency continues to fail to provide clear info once you are hired... Also, if the Agency didn't want ALJs to issue/withhold dispositions the final weeks of the FY, they could compile disposition stats over a rolling 12 month period same as the other "goals/metrics."

Assuming a couple hundred new ALJs who haven't ramped up or those who are managers/union bigwigs, this still means that only about 1/3 of full-bore ALJs met the goal. This is one of the reasons there are challenges to this particular number. It was set years ago during an earlier commissioner's term as part of the effort to attack the backlog. However, not much emphasis was put into ensuring the quality of decisions. (Now don't all you get riled up. I'm sure many of you do your best to edit a quality decision. I'm just discussing the history here.) In the last few years, more emphasis was placed on addressing the quality of the decision and the common reasons for AC remands. The quarterly OPEC training sessions were a part of this effort. All in all, I don't think ALJs will be getting demerits for falling short of the goal of 500. TPTB realize that if a large portion of ALJs aren't meeting that goal, something needs to be adjusted. Efforts are being made to address that figure and the expectations, but don't expect anything to be resolved until January. Hold the course and do your best.

Dispositions for the last FY are out. Anyone try to crunch the numbers to gain any insight?
(I actually do not think I am as concerned about numbers as I may come across in my posts. Instead, my predominant feeling is a sense of disappointment at our organization's failure to provide us with meaningful feedback and guidance on production - as well as so many other aspects of our jobs. You applicants undoubtedly feel as though you are interpreting tealeaves to make sense of your hazing/hiring process. The feeling does not go away should you be hired...)
I sorted by total dispositions and printed off the list. Won't spend too much time on it, but like having it as a snapshot. As many have observed before, it is very hard to try to figure anything out from these numbers, but they are the best we have.
Total printout is 95 pp long.
ALJs with 1-100 dispositions are the first 21 pp. I figure that should knock out most of the new hires and retirees. But 200 is on page 29, if you feel that is more accurate/conservative. Using a minimum of 200 dispositions to narrow down the full-time/whole year ALJs, that leaves 66 pages of ALJs.
500 appears on page 71. That leaves approx. 42 pp of ALJs issuing between 200 and 499, and 24 pp from 500 to 715.
Using this INCREDIBLY rough estimate, looks like only a little more than 1/3 of the ALJs who were on-board and up-to-speed for the entire FY hit 500.
Thoughts?
