There you have it. For the longest it sat ignored on the side table on right side of the training room. Rescued. Used. Meals shared in the hotel lobby. FFwd to hundreds of miles and many months later, still going strong. So when Gaidin graduated, he left it in the training room? Were you in the next class? Correct, see his August 10 post in the 2016 training thread (btw, I was then told nothing could be left in the training room at the end of our session).

I mentioned earlier that Shark Week is going on this week. Tomorrow night at 9:00 will be The Rumble on the Reef: Mike Tyson vs. Shark. Mike will be going in the water against a Tiger Shark. Evidently both were in training for two months prior to the battle. Like, how does one train a shark. I mean, they already do what they do and are damn good at it. How will training make him to be a better shark? I have a lot of respect for Mike Tyson as a boxer, but in this fight, my money is on the shark.

You have a lot of respect for a guy who bit off another guys ear in a boxing match? I don't! However, these skills may come in handy against the shark - bite an eye and you may win this thing Mike!

Respect as a boxer. I had forgotten about the ear incident. The guy had probably done something to Mike that caused Mike to bite. Actually he didn't bite off the entire ear; just the part the guy didn't need. He got along fine without it. Mike didn't see it as a big deal.
Actually there may be a bit of quid pro quo here, as the shark may take off more than just Mike's ear. Pixie

Board member dshawn needs to be aware of this. Pixie My money is on me. I have way more force than an old, worn-out boxer. Either way, the fight is gonna bite!

I think I read somewhere that Michael Buffer is going to referee the fight. But does the shark really care what Michael Buffer says?
I hope the shark is well fed before the match. There are few things as fearsome as a hungry shark. Pixie

Of course he did something that caused Mike to bite. He "wasn't afraid" of Mike Tyson. That was Tyson's main weapon. (Along with, probably, the best uppercut the heavyweight division ever saw.) Holyfield was just barely 205 pounds - almost not big enough for the division. Virtually all of that was heart.

I think I remember Holyfield beat Tyson twice; once was Tyson's disqualification for biting off a part of Holyfield's ear. I thought that was a bit severe as the ear wouldn't do him any good in the ring, and it wasn't the whole ear, just a part of it—a part he really didn't need. Pixie

Of course he didn't "need" the ear. It was a fight. Just his fists and feet were required (of course the eyes were super helpful, as well).
Still a fairly significant deviation from the Marquess of Queensbury rules committed by the young man from Brooklyn, though.

Still a fairly significant deviation from the Marquess of Queensbury rules committed by the young man from Brooklyn, though. It's also as violation of one of the earliest "kid rules" that most folks learn by age two: "no biting."

I am intrigued and horrified to share Brachs candy is releasing Thanksgiving flavored candy corn this year. If you've ever wondered what turkey and green beans would taste like in candy form, then 2020 is clearly your year.

Oh, dear heavens! Yet another black eye for Chicago and those things from here! Green bean candy corn is an affront to the candy gods! And roast turkey flavor? No, no, no!
This is ALMOST bad enough to explain the recent unrest here. ALMOST.

This is ALMOST bad enough to explain the recent unrest here. ALMOST. My mom was a jr high English teacher and was grading papers one night (many years ago). The students were asked to describe the flavor of something and one student wrote that the item tasted like "green." She added a comment asking what that meant: lime, melon, etc. and I told her to add green beans to the list, which she did. Maybe that student is the one who came up with the idea for the candy corn!

I don't know about anyone else but for the last few months I have been doing more 'little known personal history' research of my own family.
In my hometown, it took almost 20 years to integrate schools in accordance with Brown v. Board of Education.
My mom told me recently that the first year she was a kindergarten (1974) she was one of a handful of teachers who taught the first integrated kindergarten class in my hometown. Which is fascinating because I was in an integrated class the very next year. I never realized how close I was to the impact of the civil rights movement.
I asked her if she received any instruction regarding teaching an integrated classroom (the answer was 'no'). But I can recall having friends (black and white) from that class all through high school.

I don't care much about typos, I mean anyone can spot those; I focus on grammatical errors. Just love it. In the last 5 or 6 years, though, they have been easier to spot. As fewer English majors are going into journalism, the craft has taken a turn for the worse. I'm not sure what Journalism majors learn, but it sure isn't how to properly construct a sentence using the Queen's English. I'm fixin' to read the morning paper, and I will find at least two grammatical errors, probably 3 or 4, the Sports Section excluded. I read some in Sports, but don't count that section in my tally. Like shooting clay ducks, or whatever the expression. Catching errors used to be more satisfying back when I read hard copy. I kept a red Magic Marker with me and circled the errors. My English teachers would have been so proud of me. Pixie
