I just received an email about the new cert. It reads:
We are pleased to inform you that the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has certified your name to the Social Security Administration’s Office of Disability Adjudication and Review (ODAR) for the position of Administrative Law Judge (ALJ), AL-3. The entrance salary for an ALJ ranges from $112614 to $158500 per annum and will be determined based on the geographic location to which assigned and, if applicable, service of current or former Federal civilian employees.
ODAR, with its headquarters located in Falls Church, Virginia, is the highest appellate level of the Social Security Administration. Our employees, which number almost 7,000, include approximately 1,100 ALJs who are in 141 hearing offices across the country. Our ALJs hold hearings and make and issue decisions on appeals from determinations made under Titles II (Retirement, Survivors and Disability Insurance) and XVI (Supplemental Security Income) of the Social Security Act.
Since you have recently been considered, you only need to return the Geographic Availability List (GAL) to indicate your interest in the locations where we are currently recruiting and you will be contacted to schedule an interview only if you were not previously interviewed. You have the option of declining all locations or you can indicate your interest in all or some of the locations by placing an “X” only after the location(s) in which you would accept if an ALJ position were offered to you. Please do not add any location(s) to this list and do not create your own list. If you decline any location, carefully read the statement by OPM on the GAL and consider this very carefully. Also, you may be required to travel to areas outside your duty station and you will be expected to remain employed at that location for at least two years. Even after the conclusion of two years, the likelihood of moving to another location is quite limited since reassignments are made based upon the workload needs of the agency.
Please include any information with your reply reflecting corrections to position, telephone numbers, email address, or home address and your cell phone number so we can more easily contact you.
The GAL must be faxed to 703-605-8451 no later than May 2 or you will not be considered for an ALJ position. Documents sent by mail will not be accepted. Please note that if you are declining all locations, you must still return the GAL stating your reason for declination.
If selected, you will be notified in early June and must report to your duty station for Phase I of your ALJ Orientation on July 21, 2008, where you will begin employment as an ALJ and will meet and begin to work with a mentor ALJ. Phase II involves four weeks of classroom training in Baltimore, Maryland beginning August 4. You will then report back to your duty station at the conclusion of Phase II for Phase III of your orientation where you will begin holding hearings and continue to work with your mentor. If you have any questions, you may contact Ms. Pat Rocheford on 703-605-8448 (pat.rocheford@ssa.gov); Ms. Susan Martinelli on 703-605-8445 (susan.martinelli@ssa.gov); or our main telephone number of 703-605-8440.
