The REGISTER will remain until the entire EXAM is re-written. When OPM opens the application it ADDS names to the register--it doesn't create a whole new one. ;D

When OPM opens the application it ADDS names to the register--it doesn't create a whole new one. ;D point taken, but i guess it depends what OPM wants to do. OPM created a whole new application and register last time. Because OPM HAD to create a whole new application leading to a new register the last time. The old register was based upon a process that was subject of a lengthy suit. . . OPM has the new system in place--the accomplishment record addressing the six competencies; the WD; the SI. OPM need only announce a new exam to supplement the register it created last Fall, not cancel the entire register it created last Fall. . . The current register is apparently good until sometime in 2010.

This register is a boutique register for SSA. Why else would it have required applicants to indicate interest in cities where SSA hearing offices are located? No, this is NOT a register for SSA. It is a register for federal ALJs. The cert is for SSA.

Boley, you said: "there will be some appellants added to the current register. " Why do you think that? I thought that all appeals had been decided.

Not a boutique register for SSA, my dear friend Morgullord. The reason OPM requires applicants indicate geographic availability is because almost ALL of the agencies which pull certs from OPMs Register have geographic limitations. We were all required to indicate our geographic availability to OPM long before we were even determined to be eligible to take the Written Exam and Structured Interview....and long before SSA --- or any other agency which may need ALJs --- asked OPM for a Certificate. OPM needs our geographic availability in order to create an adequate certificate for any agency which may request one.

Thank you in advance. ejsccba I think the only way that you could look at the application is if someone kept a paper copy and could send it to you. Additionally, I remember that it said that each person had to complete it without any assistance, but I don't remember if they said not to give it out. For the later testing, we were asked to not give out the info. The application was submitted by each person setting up an account on the application manager website. It had to be submitted in that manner. After the posting closed, the application questions were not visible any longer. I can still view my answers but not the question that they followed. When I printed the questions my printer was not making good copies. Sorry.

I do not think that we are prohibited from revealing general information about the application (also called the accomplishment record or the AR). The fully successful ALJ candidate must demonstrate proficiency in six “competencies:” decision making; interpersonal communication; oral communication; writing; judicial analysis; and judicial management. For the AR, OPM asks the candidate to describe in comprehensive narrative form an aspect of the candidate's experience that meets the definition that OPM provides for each competency. (Sorry, I do not have OPM's definitions of the competencies, but I recall that the definitions are fairly straight-forward.) You can begin thinking now about what you do/what you have done that may establish your qualifications in each competency. Cull this Board particularly for posts about litigation experience. In my view, OPM really emphasized preparing cases for hearings and participating in adversarial hearings (i.e., litigation) over counseling a client about the client's legal rights (e.g., some OGC work or some private practice). When the time comes, prepare your answer for each competency by using words/phrases contained in the definition for the competency, as several posters have wisely recommended. I hope that this helps!
