Thanks!! You offer more relevant news and most of the major news outlets, and that is scary! And I am not talking about fake news, I just simply must say that no one seems to be talking about the impending government shutdown!
Fingers crossed something happen soon so that maybe some of us can get hired before the end of the fiscal year. Happy Super Bowl Sunday!

It appears it may well happen by a massive boot down the road for DACA recipients (though much snarling as to which DACA recipients it covers--all who qualify or only those who were registered). Then more squawking and posturing. So right now they are going to cure it with a 2 month kick down the road? 3? Time for a pool on this? Note : Even if they pass a budget that only covers until September 29th! Then the whole lovely process starts again. Curve ball: deflection of the proposed timelines may occur with May primaries, lame duck status of those who are not running for re-election and may not give a hoot--or can be.......persuaded? Then there's the November election, and possible additional ducks with severe mobility impairments. Hillspeak: any time a Senator or Congressperson says "It's increasingly unlikely" they mean stick a fork in it, it's done. www.politico.com/story/2018/02/05/government-shutdown-2018-house-republicans-389943www.politico.com/story/2018/02/05/dreamers-congress-immigration-387026?lo=ap_d1

I've applied to some internal federal positions (in November) that I am pretty sure are on hold just because of the lack of a budget. Another CR will further delay any decision-making. It's pretty frustrating.

It's pretty frustrating. Judging by comments on this board they may not necessarily be tied up due to the lack of a budget. Certain departments (HHS,DOJ) seem sufficiently secure in their budgets that they are hiring, assuming that there is a base line budget --their worse case scenario--and certain staff positions may be filled.

These do seem like special project type positions, so I suspect they are more budget-contingent. Perhaps they decided not to hire anyone at all, who knows. But I know I made the best qualified list for both and haven't heard anything since.

Certainly if they are CFPB I think their positions may be on slooooooooooooow acquisition (so why'd they advertise?)
EPA may be likewise.

I've now heard the House is proposing another CR which would keep the government open through March 22 I believe. 😩😩😩

The House passed a short term measure to keep the government open until March 23; the Senate is pushing a 2-year budget deal; the President said he supports another government shutdown if immigration isn't addressed. It's anybody's guess as to what will happen, and when it will happen.

It's anybody's guess as to what will happen, and when it will happen. The fact that one of the three is actually pushing a long term budget is a good thing. Good lord, how far my expectations have been lowered!

Senate leaders announce two-year budget deal
Story on CNN. Of course the House and the President will also have to agree.

As worded it provides budget predictability through August 2019. POTUS is said to like it, and Speaker Ryan says he expects it to pass, though floor votes are like trials, you think you know where all the balls are, but you never really know until the verdict comes in.
Senate is to vote late tonight leaving the House a few hours to get their part done before the deadline.
If passed, hopefully the bill will bring enough stability for a cert or three.

We just got emails to prepare for a lapse in spending, but I think it is funny that when you enter 2018 government shutdown as your search on Bing, you get this:
"The United States federal government shutdown of 2018 lasted from July 13, 2018 to August 6, 2018 when Representative Jonah Ryan of New Hampshire and other members of congresspeople known as the "Jeffersons" voted against a bill to raise the debt ceiling, leading to a major economic crisis."
This is a story line from Veep! It states so at the bottom of the excerpt, but it makes me wonder if more people look up Veep story line than give a fig about the government shutting down!

Looks like the government will be shutting down-- let's hope it's brief and is over by tomorrow morning.

This is not a political rant as I am apolitical generally, but I am very upset with Rand Paul right now. He clearly isn’t thinking about all of us nervous Nellies on this board waiting patiently for a budget so we can get a cert. How dare he? (Sarcasm intended).

If Rand had his way there'd be no SSA at all ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
