Thank YOU for timely letting us know about the opening. As with 1 July 2020, the 50 applications were already accepted on the first day, and the vacancy is closed. "Open & closing dates 09/30/2020 to 09/30/2020" I am hoping some of us still had our applications from last time, and were able to get in just past midnight last night like some of the ED insiders. (!) You certainly did your part to make that happen.

The uncompetitive nature of the DoE application is offensive. They obviously have internal candidates that they have pre-selected who have had plenty of time to get their application ready so they just have to hit submit when they are told to log in. I’m not sure why they are even bothering with the USAJOBS posting. I suspect it is to meet an agency-mandated competition requirement that they are flaunting. The proof will be in the selectee(s). If they post their bios, my money is on one or both of them having worked either at OGC or more likely in the DoE ALJ office.

It is exempt from competitive procedures. This is often done in exempted service, there also is no true veterans preference in exempted service.

DoE ED — as used in the announcement, likely to avoid confusion with the earlier-created Department of Energy. flaunting flouting. While the former is sometimes used as a less-preferred alternative to the latter, in this context the latter makes things crystal clear.

Can you imagine any private organization that would hire a high level employee in this manner?
"Looking to add a trust and estates partner, must have at least $500,000 in current client revenue, will only consider the first six people who come through the door."

This method does minimize the work required by the ED selection personnel.

All the announcement asked for was a resume, bar membership, and DD 214 for the vets. That's not too difficult to get together on short notice, so I'm not surprised it closed so quickly. It didn't even ask for a writing sample or cover letter (rather, that references and the writing sample would be requested at a later date if the candidate moves forward).

The close date is the same as the open date, which is something I don't think I've seen before. Good luck to any who were able to apply!

The close date is the same as the open date, which is something I don't think I've seen before. The original close date was Tuesday, 6 October 2020. Once the 50-application limit was reached on the first day, it was changed to Wednesday, 30 September 2020. The exact same thing happened on Wednesday, 1 July 2020, as can be seen by clicking on the link in the initial post of this merged thread.
