1) Video cameras: Post flags are the perfect size to cover cameras and easy to reuse.
2) Video hearing: In my state, all the courts are using zoom for hearings. The state contracted with zoom, so all courts are using the same technology. The local bar associations and state bar are doing the same for meetings and CLE. I spend sooooo much time on zoom.
The use of virtual backgrounds is a mixed bag. It does not require a green screen. The option allows hiding your background, but can be more trouble than it's worth. The edges of one's person will blend with the background sometimes. If one holds up a piece of paper, the piece of paper looks like the virtual background.
Folks are supposed to participate with the same decorum as in person hearings, and this expectation is included in all notices of hearing, but there are challenges. A colleague posted about a pro se party joining a zoom hearing, driving with the windows down, wearing a political ball cap, and smoking a cigarette. The judge ordered the party to pull over, take off the cap, and put out the cigarette. The party was perplexed but complied.
