Magazines.
A friend runs a newsstand and margins are tight. Worse, getting inventory is almost impossible. Many magazines are printed abroad, and they just are not coming in. Autos, interior design, crafts, fashion, political, music are subjects with many foreign publications. The store really looks sparse. I will grab a copy of a puzzle book or something, just to add a few bucks for him.
Really missing New Scientist and MAD!

Tips. We have been eating out in terms of take out more and I have been more hyper conscious of the tips. I have been paying more in tips because I'm conscious of the effect of the pandemic on the economy. I'm not sure it helps but I'm trying I'm doing my part I am with you icemaster. We are doing the same w/ respect to take out. In my humble opinion, if you are working in the food industry during this period of time you deserve a large tip, cash only. I just hope that these restaurants are adapting to a take-out environment because I worry that we may be headed to another shut down

I am definitely tipping more on take out, but not cash. The places I am ordering from it's curbside pick up where you arent handing anything directly to each other.

I know it has been really tough on those folks who rely on their art or music skills. I also tip food service workers extra. Even in the best of times they have such low paying jobs. As a Fed worker, I have complained a lot about sundry things, but we are pretty fortunate to be where we are.

Irrespective of some past post mistakes, I try to stay cognizant of proper use of the English language. However, I subscribe to Bayou's thinking in this matter.

Subscribing to anything bayou will only lead to problems. Disregardless of that, he hasn't been such an irritant now that he is mostly gone. Pixie

I will leave it in your post so the whole thing will make sense. Pixie. Bayou has always told me: And I am sure he still feels the same.

My unexpected increase was for kids clothes, bc I have not been able to stalk the sales for what was needed. Oh, and printer supplies - toner and paper. Yeah homeschooling....

Streaming services, kid entertainment stuff, better cable modem for internet, food (wow prices have gone UP!), tipping more, better home office equipment. Still - just so glad to have a job! Thanks for the reminders to donate to food banks also. Haven't done that in a bit and it's time. I fear another shutdown (in the states - not government-type) is looming very, very soon and that it is going to hurt a lot of people. And the unemployment benefit looks like it will be cut also. Not good.

Extra computer for zoom meetings & depositions, camera for the same. Everything more expensive because the computers were "not available." Spending time trying to figure who sent what because the laptop that turned out to be used came with no packing slip etc. Initially huge food bill because stores were running out but actually didn't overbuy because now our shelves have about what they had before the Week of Big Shopping, and yes, even used up all that TP I stocked up on. Close though--no thrwoing out phone books until this is over! (alas where's a Sears Catalogue when our nation may need it?) Face shields for staff, plus spares for clients (takes care of touching the face--except when I'm at my desk or alone in the office in which case .....getting used to not scratching the odd itch but use mindfulness to focus on it and let it go--seriously: www.headspace.com/meditation/body-scanWhat I should use now when it looks like the "first 100" I thought I'd made closed as I was completing it mid-Monster. Aaaaaagh!)

After watching a lot of YouTube videos, I decided I needed a new hobby - cutting and polishing raw opals. So the money I saved by not going on the cruises that were postponed was spent on a new Cab King (cutting and polishing machine) and a lot of raw opal rocks.

Don't forget 50 varieties of rouges, oxides for the polishing when you get bored, you can get into forging your own knives out of dulled circular saw blades, and damascing them

On the plus side with Covid, many more opportunities for online learning some free. For instance the administrative conference has a free symposium coming up on agency adjudication on several days. Not sure if there us CLE credit but you can't beat the price (OK, if someone gives you the time to go and pays a per diem, that beats it, but, for most of us FREE is good). www.acus.gov/meetings-and-events/event/symposium-federal-agency-adjudication

Presumably one needs to be a member of the Administrative Conference of the United States to register.

you just have to be the august body of folk that sign up for their mailing list, if that---give it a shot! They didn't charge a fee, ask me any information. Love it!

I upgraded from Hulu Live with commercials to Hulu Live NO commercials. I cancelled Hulu altogether. But when I had it, I splurged for ad free. The ad-supporters version was unwatchable. I did not have the patience.
