FYI - I heard it will take atleast 2-3 weeks after the closing date make a determination as to which candidates get interviews. Posting closed on April 20. I've been around the Feds a long time. My usual approach is to be hopeful for about 4-5 weeks. Much after that, it's best to move on. If anything comes later than that, I think of it as a nice surprise. Four weeks is about standard for finding out if an interview is on offer.

I put in for this. Not my first time and probably won't be my last. I am a current outsider, but former insider...hope that will be enough for an interview. Good luck, everyone. Really disappointed this position is based in DC. If it was not I would have applied.

If there is such a generous remote working policy as indicated in prior posts, does it matter if the job is based in DC if you can essentially work from anywhere? I agree with Velma. That is why I applied for it because it stated telework eligible. Therefore, hoping we could just work wherever you live in the U.S. Does anyone know what the policy is?

Only attorney advisors are allowed to work remote anywhere after a couple of years in DC. That does not apply to judges. Yes you can telework right now, but you can’t live anywhere in the country. I don’t think BVA has made the VLJ position fully remote. There is a difference between being remote vs. just doing telework. If you are considered a telework employee they can recall you back into the office to do in person hearings. If the position was considered fully “virtual” that would be a different story. Perhaps in the future?? Really a shame that BVA does not distribute their judges nationally. Maybe Neufenland can chime in?

Perhaps in the future?? Really a shame that BVA does not distribute their judges nationally. Maybe Neufenland can chime in? I left in 2018, so take my thoughts with the understanding that they're a little dated. Judges, for a long time, couldn't even telework. Only within the last few years were they allowed to do so a couple of days a week, and it's more to save space than anything else. The Board grew massively in the last decade and office space is a critical concern. The "work anywhere remotely" option is for attorneys only, and it is also a recent (within 5 years or so) invention. I started at BVA in the mid-2000s, and then, attorneys could telework, but it had to be from the local area. It was also required that attorneys came in twice a week. Again, because of space, that got more and more liberal. Now, AFTER A YEAR OF WORKING (caps added to stress that you still have to start off in DC), attorneys can work completely remotely from anywhere in the US. Judges, I believe, telework a max of two days per week, and have to be in the local area to come into the office. Understand that CoViD has made them at home full-time like a bunch of us, so what I described in the prior sentence is just status quo ante the pandemic. I suppose there may be more liberalization of judge telework in the future, but I don't know. I would guess that they would still need to come in to the office more regularly than attorneys, so any telework would be from local commuting area. That's just my opinion, though; worth what you pay for it. I shouldn't have said the VLJ jobs will "always" be in DC. As a lawyer, I should have known better than to use that word. Having said that, unless there is a big shift in how things have been done, it's a good bet that the jobs will likely require a DC-area residence. Certainly, that's what the announcement anticipated when it listed the job in the DC area.

A little bird told me that some notifications for interviews have occurred (for insiders, and I'm sure that's not surprising news). I don't know if they are done, so for those who applied, keep your eyes and ears open for the next few business days.

While it is possible that notifications still may be going out on this, I'm starting to feel that the ship has sailed. Radio silence for me.
Maybe a surprise is in store, but given that notifications began last week, it definitely would be a surprise at this point.
I will always have hope, though.
