Has anyone heard any rumors on what the plan to re open is?
we have received zero, nada no information. The monthly staff meeting last week was a complete waste of time as usual.
I am now scheduled out until June 2022 and have no clue when and if I am going back to office.

I have heard nothing at all about a return to the office.

HOCALJs will go first in first.
As HOCALJs are doing "lite" dockets, that might mean they have the ability to fill in for other offices. (In fact, I know some are) If their dockets are covering for another office, those won't be in-person.
Add in the unknowns about current (or, unfortunately, future) COVID variants, I don't expect to hear a date certain for quite a few months.
No news is, by itself, news.

Most likely no new info until they finish union negotiations

Memo from CALJ Nagle today said in-person hearings with management judges (i.e., RCALJ, HOCALJ, etc.) with start in March 2022. No word on CBU ALJs. My SWAG is if HQ can negotiate it with the union, line judges will start getting in-person hearings in June or July.

The hearings that the management judges will conduct have to be scheduled such that the next one starts an hour after the anticipated end of the prior hearing and they will be monitored by contract VHRs. The offices I am familiar have zero to one contract VHR. Seems like it will be a very slow start to in-person hearings.

This is true so far as in-person hearings with HOCALJs, (March 9th and after), but no date for line judges. Either way, you're looking at hearings scheduled 2 hours apart for in-person hearings and most, if not all, are termination cases or cases that have been sitting in PRE. Maybe SSA will finally get rid of these cases where the claimants fail or refuse to cooperate. It will be nice to resolve these cases

If you ever want to feel depressed about America (and humanity in general), read the comments in any news story. In any section of the newspaper. A simple report on how the Capitals beat the Blackhawks will somehow incite some of the most hateful and ignorant things you'll ever see. I do wonder about how the politics of this will all play out in the coming months. As noted above, it appears we are still 6 months away from line ALJs doing any live hearings. But I do wonder might the Administration not require everyone to return to the offices well before that. Of course, it does appear the nation is about to be swamped with COVID diagnoses, although hopefully largely accompanied by at most mild symptoms. So that could well change all of the calculations.

Anyone else find an email about plans to return? Anyone know what the message/point was? I believe the point was don't believe rumors about when we are returning because nobody knows anything. At least that's how I interpreted it.

Has any line ALJ (non-HOCALJ) been scheduled for in-person hearings in 2022?

I have not, at least not yet. But, I am not scheduled as far out as some of the other people who have posted they have submitted calendars through June.

Has any line ALJ (non-HOCALJ) been scheduled for in-person hearings in 2022? Not me and our office has a dedicated scheduler that I talk to at least once a week. They indicated that no instructions had come down them on scheduling in person hearings when we spoke at the end of last week. I think once the AALJ and the agency get done negotiating re-entry we can expect them to start scheduling in person hearings about 90 days from then. Just based on work flow and notice requirements.

Our union regional VP sent an update that the HOCALJs will not start their limited in person hearings until March. So I would presume that the rest of us won’t be returning any sooner than April or May, if then.
I think Omicron May cause the reopening to slow down too.
Personally I think a condition of an in person hearing be that Al persons in the room (claimant and rep included) be fully vaccinated and wear N95s, which is something they are not requiring.

TPTB will never require anything of claimants. No vaccines, testing or masks. This is the dilemma that keeps OHO from resuming hearings. And what if they tried? What happens WHEN the first claimant takes off a mask? Drag them out by the hair? Not going to happen.
