When I read the OP, my first thought was "Bob G. is finally retiring." He gave me the CALL back in 2010, and I was a bit gobsmacked and said something like "can I think about it?" He patiently and politely explained to me that it would slow down the rest of the offers. I said "I accept, thanks!" Every other contact I've had with him since was pleasant and effective. Such a nice guy.

I still have the voice mail I received from Bob with the offer from 11:46 AM on Sept 29, 2016.
Best wishes. (Sort of an odd sentiment to be offering on a medium I have zero reason to believe he'd be monitoring, but I'll just throw it out into the universe and hope for the best).

I think Pixie once said Bob monitored this blog, and implored us to not use his or the other person's real names. Pix, is that right?

I'm not sure about that—it was a long time ago—but the rule is, we don't use last names.
I saw Bob's last name being used, but as he is retired, I decided to let it slide. He has been a tremendous asset to the Agency, and the employees, so it is only fair that he get recognition. If he contacts me, I will reconsider and do as he requests. Pixie

I was on the 2 train running between 100 Centre Street and 120 Schermerhorn. And, as it happened, that particular morning there was an accident on the train I frequently took into work (but not that day), so I actually got a lot of voicemails while I was on that subway ride.

Ok on one hand I can't imagine letting "The Call" go to voicemail (although I saw why it did in your case) but it would be really cool to have that memento of the process. My conversation went like this: G: breathlessly "Hello this is G." Bob: "Hello this is Bob Ghelken..." G: interrupting almost violently "Yes! Where am I going?" Bob: laughing

Bob: laughing I got my last choice (of 4). Turned out to be for the best. While my first two choices (Syracuse and Detroit) would have been much simpler commutes back and forth home, I was unaware of how the weather would have impacted my travel in and out of my third choice, Johnstown PA. Instead, I ended up in a wonderful office and a lovely city- and for a couple of years I got to learn how elite frequent flyers live compared to the rest of us (too bad it was on my own dime). Suffice to say it's a different world and I've had a very hard time going back to being a regular schmuck.

When I got the call, it wasn't from Bob. I remember the woman's last name, but not her first, so I won't mention it here. I said yes, and didn't realize until later that day that I neglected to ask where I was going. I think I had 3 locations in play and had no idea which one I had been selected for. So, I had to call back, leave my number and wait for her call back. Pixie

Yes, I believe that ALJ hiring will happen this year.

Yes, I believe that ALJ hiring will happen this year.[/quote] I think it will depend on whether there is in fact a (huge) surge in applications when the FO's eventually re-open. I am not totally convinced that is actually going to happen to the extent some are predicting.
