Unpaid overtime is necessary to meet production requirements for the majority of the Board's decision writers. That's lost weekends, holidays, and evenings for anyone with a life. DW go on medication because of this place.

Interesting because I didn’t think the VA ever denied benefits after years of hearing SSA cases with VA disability ratings.

Interesting because I didn’t think the VA ever denied benefits after years of hearing SSA cases with VA disability ratings. The law under 38 USC and CFR (as interpreted by CAVC, especially) is very veteran-friendly.

Anyone currently with BVA and working remotely care to share their experience with the remote logistics? Flexible? Restrictive? Feel free to PM if you prefer. Many thanks!

Thanks to the members of this board for this info. I had applied to the BVA Attorney Advisor position currently open back in November. Then I came across this thread.
I got the call for an interview today but politely declined. Good luck to those who go through the process but it's not for me. Better to know it's not a right fit and let someone else take the opportunity vs risking being fired and then find myself ineligible for rehire for a fed opportunity where I'd actually fit in.

Good call. I don’t know much about BVA but I didn’t know the VA actually denied claims. As a veteran myself, I always thought it was service connected injuries especially incurred from combat. However, a very high percentage of VA cases I’ve seen are not even close to being disabled under our rules to the point. I realize that VA regs differ from ours but I couldn’t stomach writing decisions granting benefits for so many of the frivolous VA claims.

I received a call to schedule an interview with the BVA - and on paper, it seems like the perfect job: remote work writing opinions for fair pay. Then I read this thread and some of the other information available on the internet, and am not sure that I want to proceed with the interview.
Several newly licensed attorneys commented in various threads that the quota requirements are difficult to attain. Does anyone have insight as to whether experienced brief writing attorneys also have difficulties meeting the quotas?
