So.......this seems like a small hire. I wonder if more calls this week. It was asked earlier, but re-asking now. Of those who got the call today, did you interview in 2022 or 2023? Congrats to those that got the call today. May the juice be worth the squeeze

It seems like many called today were “outsiders,” so my eager “insider” heart hopes that more calls are forthcoming. Given that we expect most of the hires to be insiders, that is odd. Maybe only the outside folks got calls today? I mean, I'm an outsider, so I'm doomed either way, but if current SSA folks aren't reporting calls, then I can't see that it's over.

I just have a strong suspicion that it is not over yet (no actual knowledge). Would not surprise me if more calls come this week. I realize this board only captures a percentage of the offers, but the offer location polls are pretty minimal.
I hope that I am right and that this party is not over yet.

From past experience, are calls made on just one day or multiple days?

Have folks received their offer emails or just the preliminary call so far?

In 2022 one day....in the old days they were spread out over days, I believe.

Would multiple numbers be contacted until the person was reached? All numbers listed?

Have folks received their offer emails or just the preliminary call so far? So far just the offer. I was told that once everyone had been notified the emails would be sent out. I have not seen an email yet, its now 5:45 eastern time. ssa's poll only reports 9 offers. Even considering the boards usual capture rate, that is pretty small. While its possible that offers are done, I would not be surprised if a few more calls were made in the morning. But I've been wrong before. (I voted that offers would go out the week of June 5 after all).

To the best of my recollection, it took a few days after the call for the e-mail offer to show up in my in-box. I did not notify my then-employer or tender my resignation until I received that offer by e-mail. I would, reiterate what G said: once you have accepted, please consider reaching out to your HOCALJ and let them know how thrilled you are to be joining the team.

STRATEGY: plan a non-refundable vacation for when in-person ALJ training is rumored to be held. That way, when you DON’T get the call, you get to say “I’M GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!!!” Not quiet Disney World, but I'm glad I happened to have an hour of being a 'human blob' at Massage Envy scheduled this evening and grabbed a torte at La Madeleine next door to eat the rest of my feelings. I will try the non-refundable vacation next time!

But you do not get to determine when you will have in person hearings. So you will have to go in to hold in person hearings and that may impact you from a cost standpoint depending on where you live. On the other hand you can designate a secondary alternate duty station which does not have to be your primary home. A lot more flexibility. And you can also designate a temporary alternative duty station. Can anyone shed light on the rules/options for selecting an alt. duty station or temporary ADS? Can you just pick one, and go there more often than your home station, or do you need to schedule it in advance or what? Would you do in person hearings there? Like if a different HO is 20 min away and your home duty HO is 2 hours away, what options do you have, including for in person hearings and overall? also, on a related subject, what is the actual telework policy for current aljs? there's no longer a 2 hour rule or one year rule, so basically what are the options for a new alj?

Your Alternative Duty Station (ADS) is where you telework from. Outside of certain fairly rare details to another office you will only do in person hearings in your hearing office. You can do telephone or video hearings from your ADS. Typically speaking you will have in person hearing days and telephone hearing days. You don't have to go to the office except on days when you have in person hearings. I cannot stress this part enough. You cannot telework from a public space. You can't go to Starbucks, the airport, or the beach and telework as an ALJ.

You will hold phone/video hearings at any of your HO, ADS or secondary ADS. You need to inform your HOCALJ if you will be working from your secondary ADS.

Also, how many days per week do they set in person hearings and do you have any say in when those days can be, or do managment kind of pick your calendar? Can you try to schedule the in person hearing days so that you can only do in person hearings certain days or back to back, so as to make your long commute less often? for example if you want to sleep in a hotel at your hearing office city for 2 or 3 days a week, that sort of thing?
