I know this is a completely “Off Topic Conversation” but I am in the process of purchasing a new chair for my office. I would be curious to know what chair all of you use, where you got it (i.e. Staples, Amazon) and how much you paid.

I got mine a while back so I don't remember where I got it. I bought a high end chair that was similar to to net backed chairs in the office. Those are comfortable for me and since I spend most of the day these days sitting in it......

Got a mesh chair at staples that looks currently priced around 180. I’ve had 2 to 3 years and chair still in excellent shape

Believe it or not, Beautyrest makes office chairs. I got mine at either Office Depot or Staples; don’t remember. Fortunately it is not so comfortable that you would want to fall asleep in it as you would with a mattress, but it has great support and really is very comfortable. It’s a little large though. That’s my only complaint about it. I probably paid about $250 for it because I just needed to have some thing that would not make my back ache and my butt hurt at the end of the day.

This chair is one of the attempted Aeron clones; its pretty good based on reviews. The Herman Miller Aeron is the gold standard. The chair is very well known, well liked, and known to last 15 years in the community. There are updated versions such as the Herman Miller Mirra. I rock a used Herman Miller size C with a neck rest attachment Check office liquidators for used, lots of corporate offices closing nowaday due to remote work

I have the Amazon Basics chair and used for just over 2 years. Could use just a bit more butt padding but otherwise just fine though I’ll probably upgrade now that I’m unlikely to be in the office on non-hearing days and then only a few hearing days. I’ve been using a TikTok chair for years, but you definitely need the cushion. www.fully.com/tic-toc-chair.htmlIt’s made a huge difference in my back pain and it’s easy to hide under your desk when not in use. Fully also has a bunch of other good work from home furniture and their standing desks are excellent. My other telework tricks are - take the docking station home! It’s so great! It’s mouldering in the office! Also, troll goodwill computer sections for refurbished monitors - I’ve gotten two giant monitors for like $20 each. One has a ton of scratches on the screen - but once it’s lit up you can’t see any of them.

You could check out Ikea. They have nice office furniture at reasonable prices. My spouse bought a sit-stand desk there for about $300 and it seems rock solid, like something you would find in a "real" office.
As for me, I'm using a $30 web-backed office chair that I purchased from Target in the days before starting law school. The piston leaks a bit, so I find myself sitting lower and lower as the day goes on.

Cheap leatherette-on-metal Wayfair non-swivel chair on glides (like skis). It sits on carpet, so I didn't want wheels or pointy legs. Leatherette armrests. After 2 1/2 years, it is still extremely comfortable, with a bit of wear on the left armrest pad. I love it. Maybe $65. When it wears out, I'll try to find an identical one.

I am an insider, and was teleworking 3 days pre-COVID. I am now teleworking full time. One of my secrets to telework success was replicating my in-office setup in my home office to the greatest extent possible. On my own dime, I invested in two monitors, a docking station, the same ergonomic keyboard, mousepad, mouse, and footrest, etc. I even bought the same fan for at home and work so I could replicate the ambient noise. (I am lucky to have my own office with a door so could use a fan without bothering anyone.) One of my best purchases post-COVID has been an external camera so that I no longer have to move or open my laptop for any Zoom/Teams/Skype meeting/call/training etc. The biggest out-of-pocket cost by far was the chair. I loved my in-office chair, a Nightingale CXO 6200, and so I bought the same one for at home. I bought it in 2018, and I think it was between $600 and $800 then. It was pricey, and I know several people balk at spending any significant amount of money on their home office set-up, but pre-COVID it was invaluable to my focus and efficiency to be able to effortlessly move between home and work. A related issue is how to keep the blood from pooling if stuck to a desk job. I have a homemade stand-up desk and use an adjustable stool with an under-desk cycle to keep the legs moving. I'll alternate positions and move the stool out of the way and push a treadmill up to the desk when I'm doing things that don't require a lot of typing. The only adjustment I have to make is to tilt the monitors up or down (I have one on each side of the laptop - you need the docking station to do this). I also invested in a quality Bluetooth speaker for playing music to keep me motivated. My home setup is far superior to my office setting.

I sit in my La-z-Boy Pinnacle recliner and literally put my laptop on my lap. It’s a great setup!

I don't have any back issues so I bought a $100 chair from Amazon and added a lumbar support cushion. I've had it for approximately five years and find it very comfortable. I have two monitors plus my laptop. My desk is by a window facing the front of my home so I watch my neighbors coming and going all day. It's quite entertaining. I recently bought a cheap keyboard to match my newly decorated office. I keep accidentally hitting the caps lock with my left pinkie finger so I'm constantly typing a capital A. Not cool. Getting close to chucking the cute keyboard and going back to my efficient, ugly black keyboard. However, my relatively cheap office chair is quite comfortable.

I had this problem with my old keyboard at work, so I popped out the caps lock key. Problem solved. The keys or key covers just click in on most keyboards. I wouldn't try this with a laptop though.

I’m an insider and, prior to joining the agency, I worked from a home office. In other words, I have spent most of my working days over the past 15 years in my home office. Over those years, I used approximately 5 office chairs and all were under $200 each. Chair 4 was used during the pandemic and, after 2 years of sitting in it 50-60 hours a week, it lost support and the bonded leather was flaking.
I researched and decided that a gaming chair would be best as intense gamers are known to sit 12-14 hours. I looked online and then went to Staples to sit in one. The Staples Emerge gaming chair is wonderful! It has small bolsters for low back and neck support - they can be moved or even removed. Staples also offered a protection plan so if the bonded leather flakes, or your pet chews or scratches it, the chair is replaced or you get a gift card for the original value. The chair helps with my increasing symptoms of low back arthritis.
Also, as another poster mentioned, I bought an electric sit/stand desk topper from Amazon. I had an extra screen from the pre-Agency days so my set up is very similar to the office but in the comfort of my own home.
Happy chair hunting to you!
