Based upon information available on the Internet, there are currently 17 Administrative Appeals Judges with the DAB, and of those 17, approximately 9 were not listed as of February 2023 in the above link.

I accepted this job from the last posting. Remains to be seen, but they made a big deal during the interview process about not being scared off by the three year term, that most get extended or switch to ALJ position.

I accepted this job from the last posting. Remains to be seen, but they made a big deal during the interview process about not being scared off by the three year term, that most get extended or switch to ALJ position. Extended or converted to career? I don’t doubt that what you say is true regarding the reassurance. I’m sure it’s a comfort you needed when considering whether to accept, and I thank you for sharing it publicly. A lot of folks need to hear that good news (myself included). That said, so many things can change with the wind these days (budgets, administrations, priorities, whatever), that it is still tough to not be put off by the NTE. But again, thanks for sharing and I hope you are enjoying the position.

From a member who wishes to remain anon:
"There are currently 18 AAJs at the DAB. Term AAJs have since been converted to permanent AAJs. One term applied to become an ALJ [and] was selected for the position."

Thanks for the responses. I applied to the earlier posting and got cut, and was on the fence about applying again, but I did after reading that conversions are possible.

Has anyone heard anything outside of the receipt email after the application was submitted?

It just closed on 10/31, I wouldn't expect to hear anything for several weeks, at the absolute minimum. These things don't move quickly.

There’s some movement on this. I just got an email that said I was found to be minimally qualified, but that email was immediately followed by another email that said I was not among the best qualified and therefore I was not referred.

I was found to be minimally qualified also, but at the moment, I am still alive!

If you get a call for an interview, please post here so those of us referred can have more info.
Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving.
