would relocation expenses be paid if brought back into the office? i'm asking for both ALJs and regular DWs that live within the 2 hours. You can't be serious. LOL I have known writers who lived right at the two hour mark. When you only had to come in two days a week (and now not at all) why not live somewhere more economical or simply more convenient for the rest of your life. The reality is most writers and staff don't come in when their power goes out or their internet goes down. They take leave. They only come in when scheduled.

Relocation has absolutely nothing to do with telework, it's hiring incentive. Not even in the same conversation. Also SSA almost never pays relocation to hire someone.

Well they used to for judges who came from other federal agencies and I’m pretty sure for in house ALJ hires too Traditionally (and I believe it was true with the last hire) if you were a federal employee SSA paid relocation benefits if you had to move to take the job. At one time they offered relocation if an ALJ were willing to move to offices that had high need. Some HOCALJ slots offer relocation and others don't. This mostly seems like how interested they think people will be in relocating there. San Diego will never have relocation pay but Middlesboro probably will.
