If you watch that movie and get nothing more out of it than the proper way to cook grits, then you are a better person for it.

Tonight is "Silent Movie Night" at Chez Morgul. I may do a Douglas Fairbanks double feature or I may choose "The Cabinet of Dr. Caliguri", a very strange movie.

The DVD "Live at Madison Square Garden" with Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood arrived via Amazon. YES!
"Can't Find My Way Home" is a song that I will sing to, with a glass of Shiraz in my hand! (My wife will turn up the volume).

For a funny movie, I would vote for Best in Show. For a bizarre 1950's sci fi movie, try Attack of the Killer Shrews. This movie had such a low budget, they used german shepherd dogs to simulate the giant shrews. They strapped hooded blankets to the dogs to simulate a shrew-like appearance. If you keep a close look, you will see that sometimes the blankets will slip off one of the "shrews" and it looks like Fido....

Now Bunny - don't be cruel here! There are more puppies on this forum than rabbits - some of them a lot bigger than this little beagle!

But for the very best that you can just watch and die laughing - watch the season premiere of Wipeout on ABC. It is so stupid, but soooo funny! Especially when they try to cross the big balls!!!

You're kidding us, right?[/quote] No, ALJ, there is such a movie. It was produced by a disc jockey in Dallas--made in the very late 50s, or very early 60s....

I'm with the bunny on Best in Show - great movie, Fred Willard should be a guest commentator at all sporting events. I also personally love Fargo, especially Frances MacDormand's lines (as Marge the Sheriff in Brainerd Minnesota) "There's been some malfeasance up Brainerd" (in reference to the triple homicide); "He's fleeing the interview" (in reference to questioning a witness - Bill Macy - who excuses himself and drives off); "That must be your partner in the wood chipper there" (to the remaining live suspect who killed his partner and was attempting to dispose of the body when arrested) and finally "and on such a beautiful day" (Marge the sheriff is talking to the suspect about his crime spree while driving down the highway in Minnesota in what is supposed to be the dead of winter on a leaden gray day). Gotta love that dark humor. Apparently Fargo ND has erected a Marge statue in her honor.

June 3d--I have scheduled what can optimistically be described as an "uncomfortable medical procedure" for that morning. It could be the beginning of what Soviet military doctrine described as a "correlation of forces"...

Carjack, we must have the same cinematic tastes. I, too, am a fan of Fargo and Marge. And yeah, if any of you folks out there want to escape the dead seriousness of this quest we are all on, I'd definitely check out Best in Show. Because it's looking doubtful we will hear this week, you will have the whole weekend to check out Best in Show and Fargo. I guarantee you, these movies, particularly Best in Show, will take you away from your troubles...

I don't know who said 24 hours notice, but based on my experience, I would guess they are most accurate. We had two new attorneys report for duty yesterday as their start date in our hearing office. You guessed it!!! They got calls LATE Friday afternoon telling them they had been selected and were to report Tuesday morning (okay, so they had a THREE day weekend to prepare!!). They showed up, were introduced and promptly went back to work for their former employers to clear the calendars that OPM/Personnel offices obviously don't recognize even exist. That's par for the course, and EXACTLY the way it happened to me nearly 30 years ago--except I only had a two-day weekend.
I would not be surprised if the offers go out June 19 with a report date of June 22. Or something as similarly ridiculous.
And for those of you without government experience, get used to it. Regional office (a/k/a the Department of Redundancy Department) and/or headquarters wants everything from you yesterday, and even that is late; yet when you desperately need something from them, they'll take their own sweet time and do it at their convenience...or do it to beat the absolute deadline by 12 hours, whichever is later.
After nearly 30 years at OHA/ODAR I can honestly say my cynicism is hard-earned.
