I know we've been back and forth about this on the forum. It has been established, at least in my mind, that ODAR is not in the habit of filling a declined spot. Last year's fall baby cert was widely rumored to have grown by the number of declinations.
Going into this process, I think it was assumed the same would be the case this year. Whoever declined would leave an empty spot to be filled in the fall hiring.
However; it occurs to me now, given this pace of appointments, that, perhaps, this is not the case this time. Aside from this delay giving time for ODAR to backfill at least some potential declinations (of which we have had at least one reliable report), it would be consistent with the "hiring" push underway. If hiring and training will already be stretched thin over the next 18 months, it makes sense for ODAR to take a little extra time to get someone on board as early as possible.
I'm not sure this is the case, of course (we'll see if all the Mobile, AL offices are full when this is all over), but if it is, it gives a tiny bit more hope to people.
