Do we have evidence that they made any calls this morning, (Wednesday 6/3/09)? Only three positions mentioned in the announcement thread, but we don't know when they were offered. Does it largely appear that only calls for the June 22nd start date have been made, with one possible exception? If so, and if there are 75 to a class, does that indicate that they are only half way through? Surely not. If we have no evidence that offers are being made for the July start date, and August training, could that mean that there are as many as 75 offers left to be made? At this point I'm just trying not to chew on the furniture. (Uh..no offense assorted beagles, hounds, cats, rabbits, etc.) This is maddening. Edit by Pixie: Cats haven't had much representation here, so I thought I would throw in a very mad feline. Pix.

No Atlanta or any other Tennessee reports yet - nor Florida (except Jax), or Greenville SC.

Also, no Los Angeles, or other southern CA cities, or Cleveland, and I think Philadelphia is still available.

Having re-analyzed the times of reports of offers, and assuming a call length of 2-10 minutes including sometimes leaving message and getting a return call; and assuming two or three individuals making the calls, it appears that they are getting batches of 15-30 names at a time, with breaks of 30-120 minutes in between deliveries. Given the current reporting on the offers thread, it appears that this is only mop up from yesterday's unfinished calls, and no new batch has been issued yet today. This is consistent with a couple calls today having been received by people for June 22 start dates (it is also possible those people would have had July, except some of the initial June offerees needed more time, so others were moved up (?)). This is also consistent with the predicted amount of 110 offers having been made (if the forum is 33% of the offerees), leaving only 40-50 more offers to be made today, implying that the calls will actually FINISH today. Good luck everyone. Based on this post: Hello everyone: I received a call today from a nice woman in personnel in Baltimore. She said there are 5 people working the hirings, with 30 persons each to contact. She said each time the "hiring department" forwards a file for action, the call is made. Hope this helps. Hang in there although I know the wait is nothing short of torture. My presumption made a you-know-what out of me. Therefore, I have retracted my above comments. Further analysis is warranted.
After further analysis, I reinstitute my above comments. I think the results turned out to be pretty close to accurate, despite my flawed premises.

I know of a call today for the second reporting date. Can you report it on our threads?

...implying that the calls will actually FINISH today. Good luck everyone. I guess they can't finish 'til they start... Maybe now that lunch is over...

I find it difficult to believe that they could be finished with all of the offers today. While I understand that this board doesn't represent everyone who could have received offers, but I cannot believe that, with only one person reporting an offer with a July report/Aug class, that they could be finished with the offers today. (At least, that's what I'm telling myself right now).

It appears, according to grford's post, that offers are about to recommence. To the Batcave! Let's Go!

Right.
Well, I'm in my [shadow=red,left,300]Batcave [/shadow]and I'm looking at my red phone. It's strangely silent.
I kind of expected a tsunami of offers today.
[You may insert your own jokes here about small aquatic effects that are humorous because of the disparity in size between them and a tsunami, and then compare that small watery event to the calls not coming from ODAR].
Um.
I hate anticlimaxes.

There are no batphones in the 100 Acre woods. We do have carrier pigeons, but the skies are empty. Not even a Hogwarts owl in the air.

I truly appreciate the humor on this board!
I have been veering between tranquility and absolute misery waiting for the Hogwarts owl if nothing else? I say that but do I really mean it? NAH...
I keep hoping that telephone will ring, but thus far, NADA!
Ah well, maybe it will be the fall!!!!

Other than my own logic (which may not be apropos to the nuances of this process, I know), I cannot forsee how all the offers for the July start date/August class could be made by COB today, since it has taken 2 days+ for the first class, starting on Friday with a few, and Monday, and Tuesday... Even with "backfill," it would seem reasonable (reasonable ALJ candidate standard?) that the offers would continue into Thursday, possibly some of Friday.

If, indeed, OCALJ reviews this forum, they must be getting a big hoot out of it today.
"Hey," one of them might say, "tell the next guy you call that you have a whole bunch of offers to make today."
"But," the hypothetical other would reply quizzically, "I haven't gotten the new batch of offers yet."
The first, snorting accidentally through his or her nose, might respond, "that's the hilarity of it! Watch them react. Hit refresh."
The other might frown (in a moral-type quandary) and solemnly query, "do we have the right? This power sets us among the gods. Don't we have a duty to..."
But he or she is interrupted by the now not-so-giggly first person. "They sold their souls long ago. Now...now its time for our enjoyment."
At which point the lights dim a little and the second person makes a call to grford.
After the call, the two individuals hunch over a single glowing monitor, now the only light in the cavernous, secret office they share. What will be the response? "Hit refresh," says the first one, again.
"Oh look," says the second, "there goes that Poopmaster one."
"I know how to fix him," says the first. "Get me the 'very-long-hedge-clippers!'" to be continued...?

(At least, that's what I'm telling myself right now). I'm afraid my calculations indicate a likelihood that they have the ability (if not the will?) to finish up today. I find it highly unlikely that more than 40 appointments remain to be offered, which is eminently doable by five people in three hours.

Please see my post on "hiring process" sorry if I created a new thread and didn't need to.

Note: My called received today at noon Pacific time last about 2 minutes. The slow part is not the calls. The slow part is the personnel office (who is making the calls) receiving the "request for action" from the hiring department.

I have not seen any offers to cities in Illinois, which is where I limited myself to. Does anyone know of anybody getting a call for an Illinois position yet?
I believe with a prior poster that given how long it has taken to make calls for the first training session, the calls may not all be made until Friday. Of course I have a vested interest in that theory. If anyone knows of anything about Illinois, please enlighten me. Thank you.
